Sloppy Joes are nothing more than a chopped up hamburger sandwich that someone thought it be a good idea to just throw in a pot add some ketchup sauce (or seasoned tomato mixture) into a skillet and call it Sloppy Joes...All in all Sloppy Joes are regurgitated hamburger sandwiches...uggh!!!

Ground beef (not a patty) cooked in a spicy sauce and served on a bun. The term "sloppy" comes from the fact that eating it as if it were a normal sandwich often results in the meat and sauce spilling out.
There are many variations though. Check out for more details -

Sloppy Joes is normally made with Ground Beef which is slow cooked with tomato sauce, peppers, onions and garlic. It's best when served as you would serve a Hamburger, on Buns.

I was a teenager during the sixties and a sloppy joe was an over sized jumper, it came half way down your thighs and you wore it with drain pipe jeans. "Those were the days my friend"

In the early sixties here in the UK, a Sloppy Jo was a long sweater, worn by females (me) they came down to just above the knees, were often V neck and came in all types of knitted wool, and designs. We also knitted our own.
I preferred them in plain dyed colours, my favourite was a mohair wool style. (Shaggy)
They were worn with very tight jeans. We sewed our own zips on the inside lower legs of our jeans in those days, though some sat in cold baths, to shrink theirs. There were a few recorded deaths due to this habit, because they shrank too tight and cut the blood supply.
We also wore dirndle skirts. A type of skirt that was a full circle when laid out on the floor, so when you jived, it came up and out in a circle around your waist. You needed to be wearing decent undies:
