It always seems like this question is answered by aggressive guys who would've asked you out in the first place ("wait! don't ask him out! you'll scare him off!").

But it seems like you're hoping he's the other type, which is probably the case if you've established a good rapport with the guy. Go ahead and start by dropping hints in your conversations ("I'd love to go get a drink sometime", "have you seen this movie yet? I'd love to see it." and so on).

Next, you could actually ask him out! This is perfectly acceptable, but the rules change slightly. Don't go out with him expecting him to pay for everything if you initiated the date. Expect to go "dutch", where each partner pays for themselves. Plan a casual evening with an appetizer, a few drinks (if you both drink), and perhaps a stroll in the local park. This keeps costs down, and doesn't put the pressure on intimacy while still leaving plenty of 'wiggle' room for something to happen.

Don't be suprised if nothing happens with a shy guy on the first date. It may take multiple dates to establish a closeness with him, or it may just take until the end of the date. But, don't be afraid to do a little 'hand brushing' of your own to get him to hold your hand.

Remember, most guys become shy because they've been hurt by a serious relationship in the past, or they have little to no experience with dating. Either way, you're going to have to step up how you respond to him to get a reaction.

Nothing wrong with a girl asking a guy out. I am old fashion and usually will go after what I want and if I notice a connection I do not need another hint and will make my move. Ok like everyone this can be setting one up for rejection and I can honestly tell you I have had my share. But as old fashion as I am I know that times change and I can accept some guys can deal with rejection so instead of risking it they just avoid it.
ask him or if you want to have fun with it and remove the pressure just say hey you really should ask me out, because you really don't know what your missing. smile and walk away. this will let him know your interested with no doubt and make you sound fun and not too needy.
Hope things work out for ya.

Surprise him. Ask HIM out FIRST.

That will certainly get his attention and most guys are very flattered by that.

That will also set the tone to see if he really likes you or even notices you as well.

Don't be shy. These are the days and times we live in . Equality for everyone.

Jane, to tell you the truth, delay might be dangerous. If you are sure you love him, go on and tell him how you feel for him. And make it snappy. He probably has an impression that you are with someone else. Again, another gurl might have got a crush on him as well - just like you. So, I advice you not to allow someone else to beat you to it. Cheers!

There is nothing wrong in making the first move. At the end if he's cool, it just gat's things moving faster. I doesn't mean your not cool. He'll find it sweet. Actually give him a little peck on the lips.

u should just wait because maybe he doesn't like u like that. u can ask him out but don't sound to eager to when u ask or he might not like u at all. just relax and stay calm when u ask and maybe he'll accept. if u get rejected (trust me just move on and find someone better).
