I read that Florida has a big nursing shortage but the schools do not have the money to accept all the students who apply. Check out the web pages I have looked up and find out more. As far as getting married it depends on your and his total income. Try going to one stop (the unemployment office) and see if they can help you. They paid for my education 2 years ago and I do not have to pay them back. My situation was different than yours though. They are your best source for this as they have all the help you need in one location. Good luck and may God bless you. PS: the article said most Florida nurses go to a community college.

Well I have a few friends who got a butt load of money when they went to school because they were single moms. As far as getting married, it wwould be a combined income instead of a single one. So if he makes more money, you would not get as many grants but could still accept as much federal aid as you wanted up to the limit. But because you have a child, financial aid and especially grants (pell grants) should come into play for you.

As far as a school in Tampa, I don't live there but your best best is to ask around and look on the Internet.

Apply for the Pell Grant. As a single mother, if you are on your own, you can get full benefits if you can $30,000 a year or less. I'd say wait until you are finished with school before you get married, because if you marrie, his income is included with yours for determining your benefits. I'm sure there is a great nursing school nearby; check into a community college--many have great nursing programs and they are usually cheaper than a four-year college. Also check with your local employment office for something that is called Workforce Investment Act (WIA) here in Alabama. Surely there will be something similar where you are.

Good luck!

I am also in the Tampa Bay Area and just finished college. I got my Associates Degree in Business Information Systems from Remington College on Bush Blvd.

I went in told them what I needed and gave them all my information. They helped me with everything. I also happen to be a single mother. It will be tough work but not impossible. You need to have someone that will help you with the kids. A support system so to speak. Mine was my parents.

I graduated top of my class and was entered into the National Deans List for 2004-05.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that you will not let your kids become a road block.

grants are great if you qualify. Try for all the grants you can. You can get stafford loans and some private bank loans. I have crappy credit, but got the loans for my school. right now i am 25,000 in debt, but they give me like 10 years to pay it back and that doesnt even start until 6 months after i grad. Its great that your trying to make life better for you and your child. good luck and I wish you the best. Talk to FA at your school they can help

I don't think marrying a guy that's not the child's father has anything to do with financial aid. Aid is need based so it would be based on your income if you are single and you're combined income if you are married.

Good luck trying to recieve any money from the federal govt. for grants. They base everything on your past income and not what your income is today. We live in todays world and not yesterdays, when it comes to expenses. I know this as I am 63, going to school, and paying for this out of my Social Security, and pension.

You shouldn't have a problem at all. It really depends on your income (pretty much all your tax info), the cost of school, and how much you're "expected" to pay. You should be well taken care of with financial aid.
