I'd especially appreciate input from people who have been/are in relationships where this is the case... but all responses will be helpful!

Yeah it's possible as long as politics don't come up much! I am, or was conservative, I'm going out with a Hippie! When politics comes up we'd both argue but no more, I give her space & she gives it to me! The "Freedom to speak" is good for america not so good in the bedroom!

If both of you are mature, then yes of course.
My wife & i always had different ideas about
everything & we would debate all the time, it was
aways fun & stimulating; & she taught me how to
speak with her instead of AT her; she was a wonderful
teacher of how one can still love & yet have different
views about life & politics.
She passed away & now i miss those wonderful talks,
so, yea, it is possible if you find the right partner so you both can express your own views and not try and change each other,
unless you have an argument that really shows the other that perhaps you may change your mind about a certain topic because of some input thats makes sense.
gOOd luck in your search for the right mate.

I have seen people with conflicting political views who get along great and have been married for years so it is possible. However I think it could be a problem in todays world with all the political stuff going on in the world. There are enought issues to deal with in a relationship that I think opposing political views could pose another problem to deal with

How important are politics to you in life? Do you find someone else's political views to be a more important aspect of their being than anything else? If you have really strong views about something, and you think there's a possibility that you'll end up fighting about stuff like that all the time, then maybe find someone else...

Politics, maybe. Religion, no.

Politics and law rely on an adversarial relationship, so the willingness to listen to the other view is (or at least, used to be) encouraged. Religion, however, demands absolutes, and most theists refuse to listen to any view but their own. Now that religion has begun to taint politics thoroughly, people are less willing to listen.

Honestly you should probably just agree that you disagree and let it go. I've been with my boyfriend for six months and he is very in to politics and current affairs. Me? Not so much. And we just don't talk about stuff. We both respect each others opinions and beliefs. We just agree to disagree. Its way simple.

no, i think you can agree to disagree. But it is very difficult if you cant.
My husband and i are both republican / conservatives, we vote the first usually, but our view is the later. It makes it nice i think... you share the same values and beliefs and goals and outlooks for the country and people in power.

not its not difficult at all. if u love that person u shud make it clear to them that because u love them, u dont wanna start any fights/disagreements due to talking about politics. it may even unite you 2 as a couple against 'talking about politics'. thats a solution. hope this helps ;)
