I have taken this multivitamin before, and have never experienced the nausea like this time around. Today I threw up a clear liquid after having taken the multivitamin. I know taking it with food reduces stomach upset, but why does the stomach get upset in the first place?

The vitamin has to bond with food in order to be effective. When you take just the vitamin your stomach releases acids that can cause an upset stomach.

in my opinion the reason you get a stomach upset on taking tablets on an empty stomach is that the nutrients are packed into a tiny tablet, and on stimulation your stomach releases acids, but these acids do not have food to mix with and thus irritate your stomach lining instead, causing stomach upsets and nausea.

Because the pills can be hard on your stomache when trying to digest everything all at once. Just take it with food, you don't need to wonder why lol. Even a couple crackers will be fine.

Our stomach is not designed to accept unnecessary materials in it.
