I totally stop eating and I sleep more. Food looses its taste for me when I'm sad. Sleeping helps me to cope because.........well, I'm asleep and I don't have to deal with the issue at hand. I know that it's not healthy but that's the way I deal with depression.

Sleeping allows me to escape. My mind gets so exhausted, it eventually shuts down. That's how I'm able to sleep when I'm depressed.

sleep more, eat nothing...i have no appetite..

and i retreat, when i am awake...i go nowhere, i don't even want to go to the store.....for groceries...
sometimes my retreat is one room, sometimes its one chair....
sometimes it last 3 days...sometimes several months...when i get..introverted to this extreme, my husband usually makes me get out...then i do feel better...i am frustrated when he "makes" me...but thankful later....usually i can pull myself out of it....but twice in 12 years i have needed his help...

i am normally extremely extroverted, and give one hundred and ten percent to the world and its people around me....
so sometimes i allow my mind to unwind this way...now i am careful to monitor...the why's, how long i stay "burnt out" and find myself ways to get back "into" life....{my kids are usually the best help}

i have been on a 3 day retreat right now....not depressed,,,,just burnt out....going on a 2 and a half mile hike, to the most beautiful triple waterfall, and camping....this works great for me.

Yeah, some people can do what you are doing or they can eat and eat and eat, then not sleep. They can also have lots of energy or none at all. That sounds like you might be a little manic depressed. Do you have extremes at the other end of the spectrum from what you just described? I would go see your doctor, a psychiatrists or go to the health department in your area and get on some medication. There are a lot of people who take meds. and there is nothing wrong with it. I take Prozac from time to time and it is amazing how better you could feel. I think that the cities need to put that in the water system! Everyone would feel better.

What you are experiencing is very manageable and there is no reason why you should be feeling this way. I hope you do something for yourself! Feel Better!!!

These days I have not to much to be depressed about, but years ago I went through some depression over something that was happening in my life and I did not feel like eating and I could not sleep because I had so many things on my mind. I would say depression effects different people in different ways and depends on the circumstances. The issue is still there when you wake up. If it is something serious you are depressed about maybe you need some help. It does not mean you are mental just because you get help. Good luck.

Right, Vets just love to let little kittens suffer so that they can extort money from clients! Your kitten was being treated for a suspected bacterial or viral infection. The first course of treatment is to give an anti-inflammatory to bring down the temperature and antibiotics to kill the bacterial infection. In the case of a viral infection, the antibiotics are given to prevent a secondary bacterial infection which commonly happens when the immune system is under attack. (note Metacam is not an antibiotic, it is an anti-inflammatory medication which helps with pain control) So, kitten goes home and feels much better. Unfortunately the symptoms re-occur which means she needs to be treated again. The Vet can't predict which cats will make a full recovery, or which kittens may have an underlying issue which causes the cat to relapse. So you rightfully go back to the Vet who needs to recheck the kitten. This is a service they provide and you should expect to pay for it. Now, it makes sense to renew the antibiotics and offer pain meds because it did work well the first time around. However, the Vet would really love to know why the kitten relapsed and its likely that your kitten has a viral infection (possibly feline leukemia or feline immunodeficieny virus) that affects the kitten's immune system. But the Vet can't know for certain unless you consent to viral testing, which costs money, so the only option is treat the symptoms as they present themselves. Vet care can be expensive and it can also be fustrating. I have worked in the field as a registered technician for 13 years and I get fed up with people who think we are in this business to rip people off. The bottom line is that people do not want to spend money on their pet's health care and they certainly don't budget for it. You can certainly ask for a second opinion from another Vet, but regardless, further testing would be needed to help the Vet figure out what's going on. In response to Laurie above: bloodwork and a urinalysis is a bit overkill to be done at the first visit. The kitten was presented with symptoms of a bacterial and/or viral infection. Bloodwork and urine would have easily doubled the bill. Using Metacam short term in a pet can be done without having to do all of that, however, when prescribed long-term it is certainly warranted. Of course, now that the kitten is sick again, it does make sense to run bloodwork, and that's exactly what the Vet wants to do, but now the owner doesn't have the money to do it!

I sleep less because I have a tendency to think about things too much. The eating really depends on how stressed I am about other things and how busy I am. I tend to skip food if I'm busy and worried about things during the day but when I procrastinate, I eat more.

When I am depressed, I have a tendency to want to over eat or compensate for what has upset me. I am one of those people who make food my friend or companion when I feel like I need somebody and really want no one at all. I usually sleep or watch a lot of tv. It is different for everyone.
