I live in the Santa Clara CA. I have experienced with a couple of teens who have been at risk. How do I start a bill to get money for LONG term programs to help problems teens, "BEFORE" they get into the system. I hear over again, they won't help them until they commit a crime. There are not enough resources and it makes me sick! They need help NOW. They need be committed in some kind of structured program to get help with, drugs, anger, and education. I have been searching for over 10 years and found no help, not until they have been arrested and made a ward of the court. Unless you want to pay thousands of $ for an out of state camp. But how many low income families have that kind of money? Please help!

since you only know a few 'AT risk" teens-your area is doing well. There are many here in my area. Have you checked with the county agencies in the area?

Having nothing to do doesn't qualify a person as an at-risk-teen. They are at risk when they are exposed at a young age to physical or sexual abuse, alcohol, or drugs.

There is already resources available for them. It's called Child Protective Services. Schools also have peer counseling services. There are also tons of religious organizations who have services available for youths.

Throwing more money at kids isn't what they need. They need to be treated like kids, not clinical case files.

Money for programs isn't the solution. Going to church and experiencing the love of Christ and making new friends in the body of Christ is a much better long term solution.

Start something yourself. Get in contact with the city and volunteer your time.
