adults over the age of 18 years need 7-9 hours of sleep. That is including naps during the day. Children under the age 12 - 18 years need 8 - 10 hours (including naps). It is important to get the right amount of sleep daily and plan naptime because if you are too tired your body will think it is feeling more energetic when in reality it is tired. I can function with 7 hours or 9 hours of sleep, but if I sleep for an exact 8 hours, I am a wreck...go figure!

On average, we are more alert when we have 8 hours sleep per night. Children need more.
In reality, people don't get the required amount of sleep that their bodies need. They become accustomed to getting by on 5 or 6 hours, sometimes less, due to work or other commitments so that when they do get to sleep for 8 hours they feel more tired.

Don't worry about counting hours, you'll lose a lot in stressful times, and gain it all again.

I survived after divorce on two to three hours a night across five years, then suddenly, the stress disappeared and I went through ten hours at a time.

At sixty-one, people still think I'm far younger, it's all in your state of mind, and attitude to life, sod the experts and the quotas, just take sleep when you can and occupy your mind on other things far more important.

The average recommended hours of sleep is eight, but it varies for everyone. Some people can function normally on four hours of sleep; others get ten or eleven hours and still don't feel refreshed. It's all dependent on the individual.

it differs from persons to persons. as per researches conducted minimum 4 hours sleep is required. great people hardly sleep for 4to 5 hours as they have some urge to serve man kind. for ordinary people with no ambitions 8 hours sleep is enough. how many hours we were on bed is not question how many hours of sound sleep without any night mares we have is important. in old age people hardly sleep for only 2to 3 hours without using sedatives.
