I have been with my boyfriend for over a year now and he is seriously scared of telling me that he loves me. He acts like he does. But he won't say it. I have told him that I love him and explained that it really hurts when he doesn't say it back. What do I do? how can I get him to say it? If he would say it our relationship would be a thousand times better.

As much as you don't want to hear this. Just let it be.
If he loves you he will come around in his own time.
But.....are you really sure he does?
If you are having sex you need to factor that in because it could be the only way he loves you. Men find it very easy to make love to a girl that he may not see as a potential wife.
Also consider this. When he says he loves you...it is a commitment he may not be ready to make. He knows the next thing is for him to ask you to marry him and he very well is not ready for that.
Just know that he can very well love you but be afraid of that commitment. If that is it you are fortunate. Why......because there are a lot of guys that will tell you what you want to hear and then later be gone.
Just tell him...I love you very much but are you not ready to get married yet? If he answers this truthfully you will have your answer.

Mary, I know what your saying and yes i agree we all love to hear those three little words. I kind of admire your boyfriend because even under pressure he knows that love is not something to take lightly. He reminds me of myself and although I honestly love someone I do not want them to think for a minute that I am just saying it and it not meaning what it should. Love is so often taken for granted and people are so quick to say it and most don't even feel it and say it. Is it better to know you are loved or hear that your loved. I know both would be nice but what is truly important is that we feel this love. In time the words will follow because they just will. You say that you feel that he does, so this means he is showing you love. I think my grandmother said it best when she told me that the best way to say I love you is by action.
There are men out there in the world that beat and abuse their women and the entire time telling them they love them and as you can see they really don't. If you try and force him to say them chances are he will push himself further away but allow him to show his love and wait for the words to flow you will get so much more out of it.

You can't make someone love you. AND you can't make someone "say" it. If the relationship could be "a thousand times better"-it is not very good to start with.

Perhaps he didn't have enough love at home so he cannot express what he is feeling, you need to sit and talk about these issues, if you both love each other learn to discuss what your thoughts are so you both can grow together in your relationship.
Love is a partnership, if you feel you are alone in the relationship then perhaps you are not meant for each other.
Talk to each other!!

Don't get hung up on ... If he'd whistle my favorite Boy Band Tune Life would't just be perfect.. or, if he just liked all my friends... Our relationship would be a thousand times better.
If you wan't him to do something he's not doing now.... YOU may have to do it A THOUSAND TIMES... then He'll probably want to reciprocate!
That also works mostly for LEAVIN THE TOILET SEAT DOWN...

Yeah, everyone needs to feel loved.
You've talked to him about it. Decide if it's worth breaking up over and then tell him what you've decided.
He'll stop being scared if he really wants to stay together.

As hard as it may be to do, you need to leave him. Some people dont know what they got til its gone. And it sounds like he is taking you for granted. Too little,too late, sorry about your luck is what I would say.
