She will be in heat for three weeks.
You should breed on the middle week of heat.
She will only let the dog breed her when she is ready and not before. If you own both dogs just leave them together and they will take care of it with out any help.
Have you had all the propertesting done on your female dog to make sure she is ok to breed and does not carry any genetic defects? Have these test been done for the male as well ? Did your vet do a pre-breeding physical to make sure your dog is healthy enought to breed and in good condition for breeding?
If none of these things have been done you should not be breeding this dog.

I am sorry, and don't mean to offend you. But it sounds like you should learn more before tackling the monumental task of breeding dogs, the actual breeding is the easy part. There is plenty of time to breed her, but learn more about it first. You can have alot of problems with breeding and whelping and need to be prepared for them (as well as prepared to pay huge Vet bills in case something should go wrong).

Have you done all the appropriate health tests like CERF, BAER, had her tested by a cardiologist, and any other breed specific tests? Has the male also? If not, have them done first. Just because she may not show a problem (yet) does not mean it isn't there. You don't want to be responsible for bringing a bunch of sick puppies into the world.

If this is her first heat, she is too young, so wait awhile.

If she's at least 18 months and you are ready to breed her, talk to your vet. Your vet will need to follow the pregnancy and take care of the puppies, so that is the best source of information on responsible breeding.

You have absolutely NO BUSINESS attempting a breeding when you are ignorant of the basics!

You need to know that ahead of time for next month. They need to be locked up together.
