There are these "end of the world" freaks in every generation. It is a fundie sect that reads the bible far too literally. The world will not end in our lifetime unless it is crushed by an asteroid or comet.
Edit: "An Inconvenient Truth" is a joke. There is no evidence that our current warming trend is any different than any other period in time. The Earth is always warming or cooling. Maybe Al Gore forgot about ice ages, or volcanic activit that has spewed more "greenhouse gasses" into our atmosphere than every human in history combined. But, what do I know? I am not a politician. LOL!

first of all No society in the history of the world has survived when they started doing the things that the US is doing. The Roman empire fell and partied all the way down..
When we get to the Bible the person above touched on some of the prophecys that are signs so I won't mention them again.. Look at the news the USA is going down. There are more problems than we can handle, we are in two wars afganastan & Iraq, and having problems with Iran and North Korea. Do you think that we can financially support all of this forever?? Terrorists are inside of the US, not outside. All we have to do is miss the signs of one terrorist group and there goes the Sears tower or something similar.. We are having to make the USA into an armed camp to try to survive, but mistakes will be extremely costly.
And you ask why would anyone predict the end?? It is right before your eyes on the TV. We have more sex crimes, pedofelia, rape ect, Drug addiction is running rampart.
I would ask do you have your eyes closed?? Here it is in your face so to speak.. Jesus is coming for his people and you can't even see it..
Just like a person that lives in denial about his marriage failing until the day the spouse files for divorce and he has to face it..
Can mankind survive a ice age or massive volcanic activity in the whole world??? That would be the end, right???

I believe that we have at least 1000 years left. I've found where I think we are in the Book of Revelation, and the very next thing it talks about (in my style of Biblical Interpretation) is the Country of Israel. And it says it will be there for 1000 years. Then more stuff happens. OK, so the "more stuff" doesn't have a time frame and could conceivably all come over night, but I don't think so. At least 1000, more likely 3000 years left until we run out of prophecy from the Book of Revelation, in my way of interpreting it.
Other people interpret prophesy different. They look for particular signs that Jesus is returning, and see the establishment of the country Israel as a sign, the turning away of the American people from Christianity as a sign, the falling away of Europe as a sign, the fact that we have Bible translations in so many languages as a sign, etc. They're missing the boat with lots of signs that still have to come, and even if all the signs are fulfilled, it doesn't say how long after Christ will come.

Most cultures have a good entity - a God and an evil entity - eg Devil. They promote that we have to be on the look out for the "end of the world"... If we looked for the signs and said it was going to be in 3000 years for example - it would not give them so much to preach about....
So people will always read the signs as if it is going to happen soon.
What I do accept is that the sun will grow and destroy the earth.
That global warming is a serious threat to the human race and it will affect us in a relatively short period of time (under 200 years).
I accept that we have wasted the natural resources.
I still think that mankind will survive the near future problems - but that they will be devastating. Man kind would survive if we lost 90% of the population for example - but what a horrible world it would be to have caused that.

I am speaking without authority, yet I tell you that the end soon cometh and is virtually at the very doors.
... Only as the Spirit gives me utterance.
It is so close in fact, that I would not dare to speak it!
But let's put it this way:
Most of you under 30 will probably see up to the last 10 or 12 years before the Lord's imminent return.
Ordinarily, even those of you - even over 40 years old - would see right to the very doors of that day. THAT'S HOW CLOSE IT IS!!
But the reason most of us will not even see the last few years is because the Lord Himself has prophesied to us that shortly before His return He shall make "a man's life more precious than fine gold"!!!

Personally I think 'whynotaskDon' is a dangerous man, more dangerous than Al Gore, who's only dangerous to big industry and big oil.
But it's NOT just Gore who thinks that this planet is in trouble. All you have to do is look around: Overpopulation, pollution of our air, rivers and oceans, the destruction of the rain forests, global warming, nuclear weapons in the hands of madmen, all these things have made the planet a lot more fragile than it has ever been.
SOME people, like 'whynotaskDon' admit they are LOOKING FORWARD to the end of the world. They believe it's the route to heaven. I think we need to critically examine all the problems we're faced with as a species and deal with them as best we can.

The world will end when an asteroid of sufficient mass hits it . the resulting debris cloud will create nuclear winter an end life on earth as we know it- See mass extinction events
As far the religious crazies go , i have no use for a religion that uses fear as its primary motivational tool and yet paradoxically claims to be enlightened.
Al Gore is not stupid - a bit fanatical perhaps but by no means stupid.
while global warming cannot end the world as the above asteroid can, it can certainly alter how and what life lives on it.

We don't know when the world will end. It might not even be in this century. "The day and th hour are not known."
But we do know that the world will end soon. The signs of the 2nd coming of Jesus are all around you. After the 2nd coming, the people who are left behind will have their last chance to follow God. If they do, they will be put to death by order of the anti-Christ. It'll be a hard life for poeple who want to follow Christ after the 2nd coming.

Because the Bible has many prophecies of the end times that are being fulfilled right now. Here are a few signs.
Unpredictable weather
Nobody will know right from wrong
The world will be filled with evil
There are a few more that I cannot think of right now, but there are some. Here is one to look for.
A third world war

If your life is going nowhere and you see no hope of its ever improving, you might as well take the rest of the world with you into oblivion. But of course there are some people who think they're so wonderful, they want the world to end so they can go to their appointed place in heaven and tell all of the unsaved "See, I TOLD you I was better than you ! ! " Just remember, it takes all kinds of people to make up the world. If some of them want to believe the world is ending, let them. Just keep contributing to your own retirement plan at work because they're probably wrong.
