A vet can usually tell if they're there or not by the 28th-30th day. I have to wait a bit longer myself. My female is 40 days along right now. I can see that she is pregnant. She's thickening up, especially in the rear end, and she's much more affectionate than usual. However, I still have trouble making out the movements myself.

If she's standing still and relaxed, it's a lot easier. If she lays down on her back for me to rub her tummy, the puppies shift and it makes it harder to find them. In a couple more weeks, they'll be much easier to feel. It would depend on how many pups are in there, too. If they're more crowded, they'll be easier to find.

Good luck!

I can feel them at about 7 weeks, but that can be different depending on the breed and shape yours is in. My breed is very lean and athletic, so if you have a breed built like a Lab it may be more like 8-9 weeks.

Sounds like you need to get your whelping box set up. Get a book like I mentioned in the last post, your local Barnes and Noble will even have a good one. Take her temp starting tomorrow morning.

And, like someone else said, you may not even feel puppies, especially if it is a small litter and a heavier dog.

About halfway through the pregnancy I think, somewhere between 30 or 40 days. You could probably get a more precise answer searching the web, or ask a vet or breeder.

honestly my darling girl (doxie) has been pregnant twice and neither time where there any feelings of puppies (externally) since both times we feared she was pregnant and watched for any sign of puppy kicking but thought well maybe vet is right "false preganancy" then there they were cute little babies when I got home from work! Twice!
