asking questions like this really is'nt my forte, but here goes( lord knows, I could do with a second opinion on this one) I get on well with ( most) of the collegeues I work with,
but as of a week ago, we were joined by new girl, she seems nice, a little quiet and maybe withdrawn( remmeber your first day at a new job) anyways
everytime we meet or I look at her, she licks her lips and puts her hands in her pockets, body language was never my strong point, any idea's on this one? thanks in advance Z

You have a pile of answers ahead of me, some good, some not so. I just wanted to leave you with a couple of thoughts.

Dr. Sigmund Freud once said, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar". I have always read that to mean sometimes all the rules just go out the window. That body language could mean her lips are chapped and her hands are cold.

If I were single I would consider asking her out for a coffee or some other small thing. If she is married she will let you know, and you can make an apology and a back off. If she is single and says no. That will tell you something, she isn't interested. If she says yes, have the coffee and get to know her. From there on, you are on your own.

WARNING!! WARNING!!

Office romances are public knowledge no matter how discreet you think you are being. So unless you are both single and on the exact same tier in the company, this could be a very bad idea.

BTW always consider two things:
Along with determining the cost of executing a plan, one should consider the cost of not executing that plan. In other words, are you the type who mulls over every decision after the fact. If you spend a lot of time wishing you had made other choices include that in the cost of not executing the plan.

Always consider worst case scenario. In this case, I would say a few months of passionate romance followed by a bitter breakup could make the office environment impossible for one or both of you.

OK there it is for what it's worth...

I'm just wondering what happens after she's licked her lips and put her hands in her pockets? I mean do the two of you engage in a conversation however light or do her actions kinda numb out everything else. Does she act in the same way with everyone else ? If not, she might be wanting to talk to you and is trying to pluck up enough courage to say something -maybe thinking too much. Or if she behaves in the same way with others - it could be simply a mannerism - you know like some people click their fingers or something like that .....

Seems to me that you have a little time to work this one out!!
The hands IN pockets is confusing, cos it can be pointing to the genitals, or covering over in a safety way....
Give it another week, come back and tell us more pls!!

I think its a little submissive possibly a little sexual but not overboard. Had she put her hands on her hips then I'd say you have an invitation. Could just be a territorial thing and an invite to talk.

either shes honestly interested in you, or you intimidate her. putting the hands in the pockets is a submissive action, as is licking the lips. approach with caution.

Well.....it could be that she is just nervous and senses you looking at her or.....it could be that she fancies the pants off you.

Either way, just be nice and chatty to her and see where the conversation leads. Don't count your chickens before they hatch though or you could get egg on your face!

Good luck.
