I find head-aches, watery eyes etc. Is that normal? At office one must stare at the PC even if there is no work. Then I browse the net and participate in stupid chatter like this one. So what is considered good and bad 'in-fornt-of-pc-time' ??

Imagine this: stretch out your arm in front of you, palm face up. Have an apple or orange in your palm and hold that position for 5 minutes. What will happen?

The muscles in your arm will start to sore and the apple/orange will start to feel heavier and heavier, right?

Same thing will happen to the muscles in your neck, shoulder, arm and eyeballs.

Sitting in front of your PC, you eyes are focused to the same distance (to the monitor) for a long time. The muscles in the eyeball contracts and stayed in that position for a long time... This will cause discomfort to the eyes. In the long run, it will create vision problems.

Same applies to the muscles in your neck, back, arms etc. The consequence of sitting in front of the computer without moving for a long time could be quite disasterous. The symptoms may not be apparent because they "grow" slowly. It takes months or years before you realize you need medical help.

In order to prevent this, it is good to get away from the PC after 2 hours in front of it. Do some simple exercise. Look at objects far away from you etc. It will do you good.

Prevention is better than cure.

Take care

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C

First open CCleaner
Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.
To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:
Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.
Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.
afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.
The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.
If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)
The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).
Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.
Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.

If you're having headaches and watery eyes/dry eyes, certainly stop and take a break.

A healthy "in-front-of-PC-time" is 6-8 hours, and doctors recommend taking a break every 2-3 hours.

Hmm... About your office problem, try doing other work, and checking back at the computer later.

I understand how you feel. As a college student I spend a LOT of time in front of the computer and I've had problems with my eyes this year. We'll all probably be blind by 50 but what can we do in this technology driven world? If you're with a computer so much at work, be sure to limit your time at home. Instead of playing that game or checking your e-mail for the 15th time, stay away from the electronics and go for the outdoors instead.

A screen is not worst thing, though it should be good. With good resolution, not to big contrast, good light in the work place. Use eye drops, because people forget to blink watching the screen and eyes suffer. Maybe some anti-oxidant therapy would be good too, e.g. huckleberries or their extract

Another thing is where your computer itself is placed and in which position it is standing, because radiation affects much - temperature of some internal organs (e.g. liver) and eye may increase. Also consider the computer's position of your colleagues.
How old the PC is. Radiation level depends on that and decomposition of plastic.
What is ventilation of the room (ionisation of air).
How intensively you use a keyboard (strain of muscles of small joints).

Too much is when you get the symptoms you described. Every 45 minutes or so you should rest your eyes, look at something else or take a little walk, even if it's to the bathroom!

no thats not normal. try dimming your screen or blinking more or maybe just taking a break every once in a while. If you continue to do that you can mess up your eyes. When I play the sims for hours, when my butt falls asleep from sitting at the chair, I take a break.

I work at a computer 10 hours a day. Thats WAY too long.

Docs say you need to take a break every couple hours.

When you are frozen into a sitting position, your eyes look like you have a major hangover, your head is throbbing with pain, your hands are tingling and your feel you will die if you just can't play a game of Freecell!
