i fell off a buggy today, goin up a hill. i fell off sideways and messed up my left leg. it has a few burns and bruises, but thank God no fractures etc. had i not been wearin my helmet, i wouldve died for sure. actually i still have headaches, and i fainted at the time. has anyone had a similar experience, if so, any advice for riding buggies in the future? (buggies = ATVs)

Yes. In May of 1995 on Mother's Day weekend. I was climbing a
steep hill & I flipped over backwards & cracked the back corner
of my head on a rock. I was knocked out(I was not wearing a hel-
met). I had a concussion & memory loss. I spent 3 nights & 4
days in the hospital. To this day I don't remember about the acc-
ident. WEAR A HELMET PEOPLE!!!!!

First of all, ATVing is a hazardous sport, no way around that. But there are things you can do to stay safe; keep off of the front brakes going down hill, lean into the turns, don't go up steep hillls on uneven surfaces, etc.

I personally have never ridden one, but I know two guys who as teenagers ran into holes or over bumps and broke their legs (one each). I think ATVs are terribly dangerous. In the future, remember to always wear your helmet! Just be careful in general, and don't go too fast!

I knew a guy that was riding his ATV and fell off. It ripped the aorta out of his heart and he died on the spot. Try a roll cage and seat belt. Better luck next time. Be safe.
