Well, if you had mentioned your hair type, it would have helped in answering. I have naturally curly hair, so I'll tell you how I would use what you have on hand. First off... you should've bought gel not mousse, but that okay. Hopefully you have a good conditioner. Before you shower, brush all the knots out of your hair until the brush runs easily through. After you shower, take the towel to your hair and dry it in a scrunching manner enough so you can rinse the rest of yourself. Keep the towel, go to the mirror, use the end of the towel and "scrunch dry it" until it is just damp. DO NOT BRUSH OR PICK YOUR HAIR!!!! Follow through with the scrunching using your hands before you put on the product to try to create a decent curl (it won't look good at all yet). Now, take a handful of mousse, putting some in the other hand and apply it only to your ends in a scrunching manner, next, take another handful, and do the same to the rest of your hair. Now that there is plenty of product in your hair, scrunch it as a whole. As a last step, take a small amount of mousse, flip your head over and apply it to the underneath of your hair (scrunching). Now do some more scrunching, and sit down to let it air dry for a bit. Keep feeling at your hair in the scrunching manner until you feel it might be 30% less damp. Set your blow dryer on low and from a distance blow at your hair for about 3 minutes. If it feels damp yet crunchy, now is the time to very very carefully with a brush just kinda dab at it... you don't want to make it frizzy!! OR - use your fingers to pull apart the peices that are crunchy. Let it air dry completely, then take the hair dryer to it - with the help of your fingers, it will make it soft. Even though it may be dry, it's important to use the dryer to get the look of soft flowing curls. Hair spray? You BETCHYA!! And if you want to add volume, don't forget to spray your hair underneath and use the dryer to dry the spray. It can also be helpful to hold your hair out, use a little spray, and use the dryer to dry it. Don't worry, the volume goes down!!! Good luck!

If you have naturally wavy hair, definitely scrunch it. When you get out of the shower, comb your hair so that it doesn't have any knots. Then take a towel and scrunch your hair with it until it's a little more dry. Apply mousse and scrunch a little with the towel, and then move to scrunching with your hands. Apply a smoothing serum if you have one to prevent frizz, or just put on a coating of hairspray to finish. Continue to scrunch your hair with your hands throughout the night to maintain wave. Make sure you don't put in too much mousse or hairspray, because it will look wet the whole night and feel crunchy, which isn't attractive. Soft and wavy is what you're after.

wash hair and towel dry until it is just damp. Then aplly the mousse all over by turning your haed upside down and squezzing the mousse into your hands and then grabbing handfuls of your hair and scrunching. When the mousse is all in your hair (you have to be sure to apply it evenly to all of your hair (roots to tips, back to front and sides), then keep head upside down and blow-dry from the bottom of your hair up. IF you blowdry down, your hair will get flat. Still srunch with your hand while blowdrying. WHen your hair is dry, shake your head around while hairspraying. Then flip hair over. It should be cute.

You scrunch it as it blow dries, it may take bit of practice but it does look nice.
