I want to be humble, down to earth and openminded, but everywhere I go, I have to deal with people that strive to be the opposite of that.

How do I completely let go of my ego and live without anger and negative emotions towards others?

A lama once told me that trying to live in a world of problems is like walking barefoot on stones. You either have the option of covering the world in leather so where you walk is more comfortable or you wear shoes. As you have chosen to wear the metaphorical shoes remember that the people you meet - whether positive or negative - are reminding you of what you need to practise and how well you may be doing. E.g. without difficult people how do you learn patience, without seeing suffering how do you develop compassion. It's a hard path I know.

FEAR CREATOR , Start living only and only to be accepted by Him. Even alone fear of Him.
to control anger a good small story

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a

scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.'

Here's a couple of things that might help. Imagine in front and to your right, your self with all your egotistical thoughts. Then to the left imagine numerous people, some are friends, some are enemies, some you don't know, some sick, some poor, etc. Think both sides want happiness and freedom from suffering, but you are only one. So wouldn't it be more important to try to help the larger group? When you realize that we are all one, you can also see that by helping others you are helping yourself. Anger breeds more anger. Be mindful of your emotions at all times. You will notice that problems do not cause suffering, the cause is how we choose to react to the problems.

Good intelligent question.

The ego is the product of the material elements. The Hindu scriptures tell us that we are eternal spirit souls and not these bodies. By associating with the material body our consciousness is polluted giving rise to false ego.

To kill you FALSE ego, you need to understand who you (the spirit soul) are and what the laws of karma are.

PS a word of warning, I hope you don't get drawn into the false teachings of the buddhists who :
a) don't believe in God, and
b) try to fool into thinking that doing nothing gets rid of your false ego.

I don't know whether you believe in God or not, however, everyone knows that you have to do something to exist - otherwise you might as well die.

The correct way to get rid of false ego is to work for the satisfaction of God and not for your own satisfaction.

Look to the Creator get your eyes off the world and think like the humble lowly Jesus when he was on earth.

Ask yourself a question what did he need to do?

He went away on his own to pray to the Father in Heaven.

Its not easy walking against the flow of the river and you need the help of God if you are to succeed.

Remember to pray and ask God's for help to let the old man die in the flesh and live in the spirit.

Always thank God in faith believing you have removed the mountain only in the will of God.

This is SO EASY!!
I did it unintentionally.
I became handicapped. I suffered through 3 years of no money coming in waiting for worker comp and ss to start. It finally did and the income is very low.
Poverty erases ego for sure. It makes you humble and more caring of others in the same place you are.

Learn to kill ego from Jesus. Read Philippians 2:5-11(Bible). Ego comes from self righteousness, riches, power. so, when you test your righteousness with God's standards of righteousness. you will be humbled. How ever it is not that end when you ready to accept the righteousness which gives you though believing in Jesus Christ. It gives confidence before him and love for other with showing your ego. You cannot compare your righteousness with others. Because they are just like. so, learn from Jesus.

Take up the cross every day of your life and follow Jesus. Walk according to the spirit and not the flesh.

Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Prayer - and a lot of "biting one's tongue" :) I struggle with that as well. tho, I read something in a book by Pope John Paul the Great, where he talked about taking "my and mine" out of his vocabulary since everything in his (our) lives comes from God and what doesn't come from God - shouldn't be in our lives anyway - very humbling concept -- and for me, helped clarify that those feelings of "this was MY job, I want the attention for it" is "I worked on that job and did the best I could for God's glory" still a struggle with the ego I admit fully.
