Web chat could really help in mutual understanding. But "Islamic websites" that always issue the news of killings and beheadings don't have a "click here to respond" button. they kill arabs who don't agree with them; they kill Americans, and others....like when the UN office was blown up in Iraq, yet they feel so self-righteous that they won't engage in debate or even internet conversation. This really shows how totally intolerant the Iraqi insurgency is. Websites to report killings but not to promote any kind of peace!

they do. i see it on this site all the time. however, many USians have no grounding in history or ability to intelligently discuss these issues beyond the usual prejudice and fear. that doesn't exactly make it easy to get beyond the basic "you're evil" "no, YOU'RE evil!" BS.

Acknowledging the mistakes made by your predecessors and promising to take all appropriate actions to correct those mistakes where possible would be appropriate. But Humiliating the country would be a useless empty gesture. People say that America is Arrogant. What they mean is that America is powerful. They do not hate what we do, but what we are capable of. They fear what they cannot control. This global rash of America Bashing is rooted in fear. But it is an irrational fear that when excercised becomed a self fulfilling fear. They whant to bring us low so they will not be afraid. We want to stay on high so we can remain unafraid. They attack us to bring us down we attack them to stay on top. It is a viscious circle. All because people fear what they cannot control. But that is human nature.

I think your answer to your own question is going in the correct direction.
We should just go away and let them do what they want to do to each other. When they finally realize the error of their ways and want to be reasonable and respectful, then we can come back and try to help.

If they were to engage in any worthwhile debate, they'd have to face up 2 the Fact nowhere in the Koran does it say to wipe out non-believers but 2 engage in converting them with gentle persuasion, forgiving their enemies & most of all with Faith by means of prayer!
