TODAY I READ a newspaper article that filled me with rage and contempt. It was about the "reconciliation" that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki plans to offer the Sunni armed factions here. Maliki is reportedly considering granting a limited amnesty to Iraqi insurgents who have killed "only" Americans but no Iraqis.

To a soldier who has been deployed to this country twice already, and has been out on the street fighting insurgents, this is, plainly stated, an outrage. I take personal offense to Maliki's proposition to grant any kind of amnesty, limited or unlimited, to any insurgent who has been involved in terrorism against the United States. It seems to me as though Maliki has slapped all the families of wounded or dead soldiers in the face. How can President Bush allow this man to even say a thing like this?

Angry at who? The irakis or the american government? Personnaly I am angry at them (military) for killing civilians in retaliation for loss of their colleagues. What kind of civilisation are we? we pride ourselves in liberty and freedom and democracy but we go out there and kill innocents like we would be barbarians from 7th century. Wow... What an example for other countries. And we are the "civilized ones".....
This makes me sick...

You should direct your question to the 19 Republican Senators that endorsed this BS. All 19 consistently bleat they support the troops, the President, and the War but they voted to let this travesty go down.

As to your second question concerning Bush "allow[ing]" this to happen? Take note of the fact that a revised proposal was advanced on the 23rd of June by Maliki. He has changed his mind and now wants justice for all those resistance members. I don't doubt that he got a few calls from the people running his country and he was reminded of just how non-sovereign Iraq is and will likely remain.

Also take note that Maliki calls them "resistance" members which indicates that Maliki believes his country is being occupied by foreign military forces.

Seems like the American soldier is being shafted in many ways. I have heard numerous stories from returning soldiers who dread the possibility of another tour.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you and all the other Americans a quick safe return. I'm sorry you have to go through so much extreme hardship, then get dissed by GWB.

I look forward to the day when guys like you will be sitting on your couch in Anywhere USA drinking a beer, watching football and talking to your friends about pretty girls. I wish we had the power to change things.

First, I applaud you for enlisting and fighting in our armed forces...both of my sisters as well as my father were decorated soldiers. Absolutely you have the right to be angry; absolutely you have the right to feel the way you do; however, as a civilian, not trained in the ways of war nor in the ways of the military, my response to "How can President Bush allow this man to even say a thing like this" simply put--BUSH has no control over what the man says...he does however, have control over how he responds. The problem appears to be that the real issue of AMERICAN people does not matter to our president. His children are not fighting anything but alcoholism! They are not in the war and thus, he has not been personally affected. His personal stake in this war is about oil...yes oil...he is after all whether we want to admit it or not a business man whose business is OIL...his responding in anyway that could jeopardize his "business" after the presidency is proof positive that he will not respond in a manner that will honor our fallen soldiers or those who have served in our military....

Wow....I fully agree.....I have been there and seen some crap that indeed does make that a collective slap in the face.....

Our military is fighting and dying for THEM!!! how can this guy look himself in the mirror..... I say pull out the troops.....bring us all home...from around the world, declare isolationism and watch the rest of the word decay to the stone age.....We then walk in and dazzle the people witha few shiny baubles and take what we want.

Yes, you have the right to be angry. Neither Bush or the Republicans care about you guys. I say this as a former Marine. You're just a number to them, as Bush's spokesman Tony Snow said earlier this week.

You have misquoted the interview....but hey whats new with your propaganda tirades?

In WW2 you would have been telling everyone that the jews were fine and that Auswitsz was actually a holiday camp....

And you also seem to have misled people into thinking that you have been fighting in Iraq, and we all know that you havent don't we so please put the record straight.

Erudite, are you nuts? Everyday I hear you giggling about war deaths and insulting soldiers. Now you say this. If you just need attention, go to the mall and start shouting obscenities.

Look...
The people, in the countries we're invading, understand that we are there for reasons other than terrorism!
The war on terror is a huge lie!
Wouldn't you be pissed off if someone invaded our country, killed 10's of thousands of innocent civilians, all for the profit of the invading country's governors?
Well.... Wouldn't you?
