The Hindu scriptures tell us that we (the souls) continue in the cycle of birth and death until we realise who we are and start rebuilding our relationship with God.
This is simply a material creation by God to help us try and live our lives separately from him. In the ultimate sense nothing is separate from God, yet, the material creation is just a temporary creation for the enjoyment of the souls.
The Hindu scriptures describe 14 levels of systems within the material creation. In these systems some are extremely oppulent and the entities there enjoy a long life span very little / no disease. There are also systems where the life is extremely hellish, i.e. constant suffering, disease and short lifespans. The earth is described as somewhere in the middle, giving us the best opportunity to realise our relationship with God since in the heavenly systems, people all too easily forget God and similarly in the Hellish sector, however, on earth we can obtain a more balanced view and therefore stand the best chance of succeeding.

Your question is good, and I think most people think about it occasionally at least. In sixty six years of living I have come to believe the message of the Bible as to our origin, meaning that such a complex organism as a person could not create itself and so there must be a higher intelligence. Since that belief came from the Bible I also believe what it says about that higher intelligence (God), and then God says in the same book there is an afterlife which is being prepared for us. Therefore I believe there is a heaven and a hell to which we will go, depending on our choice while living on earth.

I definitely believe in the afterlife. I believe in Heaven and Hell, but whether it is exactly as we believe it is I am not sure. I am sure, however that there is a God in Heaven and a Devil in Hell and we will end up one place or another.

I believe in the afterlife because there has to be some dimension where our souls go from our corpses. But I think people should limit these kinds of questions because in the end, we are going to be very right or very wrong.

I don't belive in the afterlife. I think we are all machines which naturally switch off at the end of our turn. Just like other creatures. We created the belief because man can't bear to think that this is it, so we created God etc. Nothing wrong with those beliefs though.

I don't really believe in an afterlife, I am concerned with attaining perfection in this life as a worthy goal.

I believe that after our bodies die our spirits are set free to exist in whatever realm we choose. We will just kind of create our own paradise with our imaginations and dreams and be able to change it all constantly, never being tied down to one form of existence as we are during life on earth.
