At least income taxes would be fair, not to mention property taxes.
They take BILLIONS of dollars with no proper bookkeping of any
kind and seem to have an answer for everything and anything you
could possibbly wanna know, yet they always say they are broke.
Think of what can be done with that tax money.
Education, rehabilitation, national debt, hunger, science, list goes on
and on...
Isn't God's love supposed to be free of charge anyway? Why can't we all invest in our society rather than giving it to them as of purchasing parcel for afterlife? Are we that desperate? Are we really
that blind?

I agree, where I live there are several religious institutions with prime land that pay no taxes. Yet, the roads by them are plowed, and they get all services.

Something is wrong. They should pay taxes, maybe at a different rate, but they should.

I can see that you do not understand how ministries work. How do you pay somebody to give counselling to a drug addict if there are no contributions? The drug addict can't pay. So how does this counsellor pay his/her bills? Where do you expect congregations to worship in the winter, if not in a church building? Where will the funds for utilities come from, if not from offerings? How do you expect christian colleges to raise funds for education if the church does not sponsor them? Tuition would never cover the cost.Let me ask you, why should the government charge an organization to give away its funds? What would the government do with that money? It would blow it on $300 pentagon hammers. Do you know why those church organizations are broke? They get the funds to the third world countries that need it. Unlike our State department, the money does not go to some dictator's pocket, it goes directly to the people. This is something the feds simply cannot do.

Because if I wanted to establish a religion and had to pay a tax, that would be a law concerning the establishment of a religion (since taxes are legislated.)

U.S. Constitution

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

There's nothing to prevent you from trying to change the Constitution though...go right ahead.

They should pay taxes for two reasons. Firstly for society's benefit and secondly it would stop any stupid cults trying to reap the benefits of tax free havens.

It would violate the Seperation of Church and State, duh.

Granted, the "state" listens to the "Church" but not vise versa....go figure.
