Sometimes it seems so. So many wars have been fought for thousands of years over religion. It's not the only thing that causes wars, or suffereing, of course, but ask yourself:
Would this world have been better without the Crusades?
Without missionaries from Europe forcibly converting (or killing if they refused) native peoples in the Americas and Africa?
Without the Spanish Inquisition?
Without conflict between Israel and Muslims in the Middle East?
Without the off-and-on persecution of Jews (in the Middle Ages right through the 20th century) in Europe?
But people say that it helps them tremendously to get through life. If people could manage to stop FIGHTING over religion, it would be a great thing.

That all depends on how you look at it. From the standpoint that there would be no religious differences, no religious prejudice, and no religious wars, the world would certainly be a better place. But, from the standpoint that a good number of people fear religion and fear God, and that is what prevents them from doing certain wrong acts, and if there was no religion, many of those people may do acts without religion that they would not do with religion. From that standpoint, the world would be worse off. It all depends upon your reference point.

The world would be a much more crowded place without religion. Since most wars are fought over religionor ethnicity or real estate (and the real estate wars are typically between two sides who think their god gave them the land!), most war deaths are an indirect consequence of religion.

The world would be a better place without people who always judge one another BECAUSE of religion. I have the right to my beliefs and they have the right to theirs (as long as their beliefs don't involve mass murder or whatever). I think the real problem isn't about religion--it's about a lack of respect for one another. So--my vote is no.

I believe that religion is an invention of man. Religion is man's way of reaching out to God. There are many different ways (religions) of reaching out to God. No one knows which one is true -- God knows, but he's not talking.

Imagine that there was no religion, and all the cruel, evil, insane and perverted people, did what ever they felt like. Knowing that they would not be punished. If you are not religious. Consider it a worldly harness.

There are way too many religions--too much confusion for anyone trying to learn what the Bible really teaches. The Bible says there is only one faith.

That's hard to answer since, we never experienced in our life time, so it would take hundreds of years to know, if we were to make that choice
