Do you really think it's necessary? I don't, I think upholding our freedoms and civil liberties is pretty important, and worth the risk by most people's reckoning, I think the best way to fight terrorism is to have better control on who/what comes and goes in or out of our country, and not to do business with countries that give the money to support that garbage in the first place...oil's an issue in this question, and if more people were cognizant of the relationship between pressure on the throttle and money flowing to countries that support this kind of thing, I'll bet a lot of people would drive a lot slower....but, at the end of the day, there's people that don't like America, for whatever reason, and I'd just as soon see better border controls to keep em out. Including the airports...

We already have given up a good deal of freedom since 9/11 and more is being TAKEN v=every day it seems. The freedoms I speak of are not being surrendered they are being taken, seized, if you will. We are constantly being monitored by big brother it appears. We no longer have a right to privacy. For example, library records, bank records, phone records, wiretaps. It seems the govt can do as it chooses under the veil of fighting terrorism. If we as "america" have something worth defending it is Freedom. We lost it on 9/12, and we are losing more all the time

The Bush Admin. is constantly sucking away our rights and freedoms without even asking. Tapping phone line, demanding every ones phone records, now he has banking records of just about everyone. The guy can't tie his own shoes, how does he think he can fight terrorism? How can you fight a group that is willing to kill themselves? Its like the war on drugs, every time you make a big drug bust, it drives the price of drugs up, more money for the bad guys, there are certain wars that can't be won. Am I willing to give up freedoms so that we can bomb and kill innocent women and children in another country to push our ideals onto them? Are we the 'World Police'? Who are we to tell other counties how they should run their country. Would we like it if someone came over here, killed tens of thousands of innocent people just to overthrow our way of life, take away all of what we believe in? If they do not like the way they are living, they could do like the Mexicans...cross the border, run, do whatever it takes to get things right. It is not for us to say how they should run their country. Would I give up my freedoms? We already have, like it or not.

No. I firmly agree with Ben Franklin that he who would give up freedom for security deserves neither. I worry about the precedent that all of this internal surveillance sets for the future, and everyone else should be, too. Right now all the people who say "Well, if you aren't doing anything wrong, what are you worried about?" might be singing a different tune if a President THEY can't stand, like, say, Hilary, has the same power over THEM. How would all of the conservatives like HER listening to their phone calls? Well, Bush is setting the standard of acceptable Presidential conduct, and that means ALL future Presidents, as well. People who support the humongous expansion of Presidential powers would do well to remember that.
It's just a bad idea, for everyone. It needs to be stopped.

Terrorism is a scourge against humanity. They have no rules.Hence the fight is unequal and hard often leading to lot of casualties. So this is a situation when common good, life and property of all is at stake. Therefore special measures are needed. But checks balances must be instituted against misuse or excesses.

There is no easy answer to this. I fully support our president and the military in this difficult age. I would be willing to give my life for the freedoms and and rights that have been so dearly paid for in so many ways. However, I know in my heart that as soon as we allowed terrorists to erode our personal freedoms, they have won more than they ever hoped for.

Not if it means sacrificing my constitutional liberties!
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
