I've tried quitting smoking many times, but I'm just not 'right' without my tobacco. I can't concentrate, my mind doesn't work right, does nicotine 'fix' something in your brain?

Search Yahoo!Answers under smoking and you will get plenty of other advice as this question gets asked about once a week or more.

From me, I would suggest you change your eating habits to those that address the reason your body demands that you smoke, which may be a blood sugar imbalance (not something wrong in your brain). Seriously! Some of the reading I have done due to my diabetes suggests that the body gets addicted to substances to survive a chronic low blood sugar condition.

You may want to check out www.hufa.org to see some basic information on blood sugar imbalances both high and low.

I quit a year ago last February after MANY attempts. The first while is definately the hardest when you're battling both the cravings and the habit. I had previously tried the patch, the gum, a lazer therapy in the ear even with no success. What finally helped me was a natural therapy available through a health food store. It contained 2 different pills containing various herbs (one had the same effect of tobacco on the brain and one was used in India to help opium addicts with the withdrawal symptoms). Also included in the kit was a bottle of aromatherapy oil. This was to smell anytime you wanted a cigarette. I'm really not sure which part of it was the best or if it was just in combination that it works, but for me it really worked and without most of the jitters and other withdrawal symptoms.
Hope this helps!

Try keeping a cigarette in your mouth and pretend to smoke it without lighting it. You'll eventually stop.

I did this.
