When I had a dog- "Buttercup" was the most uncooperative poodle-terrier-terror when it came to clipping toe nails. I didn't want to cause injury to her nails or toes by fighting so I resolved the issue by "treating" her to the Groomer. Now, this was an expensive thing for me because I didn't always have the money for haircuts and such, but I learned that if you are going to keep a dog, you have to maintain her/him and sometimes it means you have to spend some money. Please let the groomers take over this function. You will feel better, your dog won't be injured and your dog will feel so special. I would drop her off on Sat morning for her "grooming" and pick her up and she would look soooooo nice and smell soooooooo good. I was always inspired and she was treated well. I gifted that to my little pup and I honestly believed she appreciated it. ( I'll tell you the truth, the second time I attempted to clip her nails, I hurt her and she bled. I did not want to hurt her ever again, so I made that sacrifice) Your dog will love you! Good luck to you and your Terrier,

One of our dogs wont let us clip her nails or brush her. We have to schedule and appt. with the vet. give her valuim and take her in to have her nails clipped. Even drugged she thows a fit. The vet takes her into the very back room, so the other dogs and owners dont think they are killing her. We can still hear her in the waiting room. She get very upset and pees allover herself. She is 5yrs old now. There is no hope for us. Take her to the vet let them see if it is hurting her when they are clipped. They might be able to help. Our dog has very long long quick ?( flesh in nail). That it hurts when they are clipped. They dont bleed, but still hurts her. Our dog is a freak, what dog doesnt like being brushed?

First of all this is a sign that she may think she is boss. Start playing with her feet, toes, and nails multiple times a day. Lay her on her back and play with them. Play with them as much as possible. And don't let her not let you. You need to be head hancho! She is young enough to correct this problem. Once she is older and set in her ways she may even go as far as biting you. Good luck! Oh and the benedryl thing... I wouldnt give it to her too much cause if she ever needs it for allergies years down the road it may not work as well.

I recommend wrapping her in a towel with one leg out to trim nails. I would also have towel over her eyes before starting procedure. Talk to her in soothing terms. Be sure you have a sharp clipper designed for dogs and cut the nail with the least amount of twisting of the nail itself because this hurts the animal. Good luck.

Take her to a groomer. It's less than 10$. The groomer can clip her nails w/ less trauma and quicker than you. And, you get to be the one to "rescue" her from the groomer. Be the good guy in her eyes. It's totally worth it!

I used to file my dogs nails. This didn't freak her out like clipping.

My vet showed me a trick that works for her and me now. She lets the dog lick peanut butter off a spoon while she trims their nails. I don't know if this will help, but it did help me.

The best and safe way is to take your dog to the vet. The dog could get injured wiggling around.

I would think you could take it somewhere to have it done and they may give it something to relax.
