But who would decide what is good for the gene pool? It would be better to let mother nature take its course.
You would be more happier to find someone who love you, but might not improve the gene pool. Or, you prefer an arranged marriage with someone that could "improve" the gene pool, but you don't love.

Actually a prime problem with dog breeding is that continuous inbreeding develops genetic defects at higher rates than normal in nature. This is why dog breeding has become necessary to keep various breeds alive, as generally only the best of a litter are allowed to reproduce becuase the rest are defective.
If humans wanted to improve their gene pool, they would do the opposite of dog breeding and completely diversify with total cross-breeding among races. Even today there are certain races of humans that are predisposed to certain diseases due to this and can only be fixed by breeding outside the race to find greater genetic diversity.

Genetics and Genealogy are not the same thing though they both deal with different aspects of human development through the years. Genetics is a biological science. Genealogy is family history.
The first thing we could do to improve the Yahoo Answers genetic pool is to understand the difference between these two words:
GENETICS: The branch of biology that deals with heredity, especially the mechanisms of hereditary transmission and the variation of inherited characteristics among similar or related organisms.
GENEALOGY: The study or investigation of ancestry and family histories.
You question would be much better suited (and you'd probably get more answers pertinent to what you're seeking) for a science section of Yahoo Answers.

well, the fact is that unless humans are trying to reach perfection or standards, we would be trying to improve our genetic pool. But because we are not trying to strive for something, humans don't think to reproduce in means of achieving something.
However, when slavery was prominent, slave masters used to breed African Americans for strenghth- so they were striving for something.
But because we are human, breeding humans for perfection is almost inhumane- the value of people is degraded to something to be bred to achieve some result.
If we wanted to improve our genetic pool maybe for protection against diseases- this makes more sense-- so I would agree in that aspect.

First of all, dog breeders breed for certain traits they consider important to that breed. Most breeds have serious health problems because the breeders weren't able to consider all the consequences of each pairing.
Second of all, "improving" the human genetic pool has been tried before. It was called the "science" of eugenics, which suggested forbidding "unsuitable" people from marrying. It led to forced sterilizations of men and women in the US, and in its ultimate form, it led to the Nazi idea of eliminating the "unfit" in concentration camps.
That is enough to convince me we should leave well enough alone....

Let's not play God, alright? I think he's doing a pretty good job by himself. Do you have any idea how many problems would arise out of this? It's insane. With all the corruption out there, what makes you think the group that leads the "strive for human perfection" would not become corrupted?
Besides, we're being asked about human perfection by someone with typos in their headline.
