The "best" front projectors are still the high-end CRT types, but they start at $40,000. The latest DLP and SXRD (Sony LCD) projectors are very good and in the 10K - 20K price range. Go get an issue of Widescreen Review or The Perfect Vision and look up their reviews. Just as important as the projector is the screen, and different types of screens are needed for different projectors. One of the most highly regarded makers is Stewart Filmscreen, but they are expensive (over $1,000). Also, you will want a decent audio system to complete a good home theater. Again the best source for information are the magazines I mentioned above. Also the AVS forum is a good place to get information

but like most forums, it takes time to sift through all of the opinions.

Depends on your application, there are plenty of great projection systems. I would suggest starting with a budget and go from there. If you are asking as a general question, it is a matter of opinion. Too many to list
