The red and blue pills are symbols. I believe we "take" these pills regularly whether we know it or not. I think the movie is asking us to wake up and realize we make this choice.
In my mind, one pill represents going along with the crowd, accepting as truth the thoughts and values of others, being a part of the "system" that never questions, abhors individuality and will stop at nothing to protect itself.
The other pill represents thinking for oneself and encouraging others to do the same. Exploring and questioning ideas and values just like in science....get out the 'ole litmus test! The one that determines the things that work for you.
The "desert" is also a symbol. Have you ever been to the desert? On the surface it looks so empty and barren. But once a person gets out there are starts exploring you would not believe all the life there is and suprises, like hidden caves and little oasis'. And watch out for the weather in the desert.....one minute it can be 100 degrees and the next 50 degrees or even below freezing! A bank of thunder clouds can move in, let down some rain and raging rivers can develop, washing away anything in its path.
I suggest you allow your mind to explore beyond the physical senses. You may find that physical manifestations begin with "thought".
And just for the sake of debate.....What is "real life"? How do you know there isn't a pill in real life that when taken you know everything knowable and know all the truth? Who says we don't know the truth on Earth?
"Wise Ones" throughout the world teach that each and everyone of us "Know nothing.....yet know everything!" Try to wrap your brain around that one! I'm not sure I fully comprehend but it sure is fun to contemplate!

Well, I loved the movie my Self.
Yet, I don't need a pill to wake up... There are plenty of opportunities to get the red pill message.
Currently, shopping centers, are blue pills
The environmental crisis and catastrophies in the world is a bottle of Red pills in intself.
We are, as humans (and other life beings) at an intersting point in our life. I beleive that for the first time in history, the way we define God will have to really be from the inside rather than from a submissive to an unseen force point of view. You know, the space where we take our responsibilities, where we are accountable and recognize our faults and mistakes so that we can ADAPT and correct the course of our present and future.
Taking responsibility is a divine step and a first Major Red Pill treatment of Reality....

Hmmm, no. You cannot tell if there is a matrix within the matrix and neither can you tell if reality is real. After all, science is nothing more than measurements.
