Normally when you plead not guilty, they will offer you a deal to get it over with. If you have the time to spare, then you cant try. If you really don't want the points, take the ticket to a lawyer.

Good Luck

Jump on this BEFORE the court date! Go to the prosecuting attorney's office (or DA's office, however it works in your jurisdiction) and ask the clerk if you can plead the case down. Ask for something like defective equipment (no points in most jurisdictions) but offer more $$$ than the usual fine for the speeding charge.

By doing this you're saving them the cost and time of prosecuting the case, putting more $$$ in their kitty, and saving police time since the cop won't need to be in court to testify.

This is a very strong incentive for them to deal and most will do so as long as your record isn't too terrible and you weren't doing 80 in a school zone.

You usually have an opportunity to talk to the prosecutor or the DA before court. By coming up with an alternative charge that includes a higher fine, but less points, he might go for it. Offer to take a safe driving course, and/or do community service if they'll drop the charges after completion.

Plead to a lesser count?.....whatcha do?....spit out the window?Pay the fine for speeding for it also goes towards your credit rating (insurance points)....and don't speed again.Your credit and insurance points will increase after a period of time of clean driving.
I listed a second link below for NY/northern NJ.....it's testimonies and a number for Traffic Violations Defense....sorry for the smart remark about spitting out the window as laws vary from state to state.
After reading some of the testimonies i see where you would be concerned over the matter.

Yep... there should be a court date written on your ticket. Show up early on that day and speak to the prosecutor. They will almost always lower the points. I've only had one ticket, but I did this and got points dropped from 4 to 2.
