Joe Louis.
Arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time. He holds the record for longevity as a heavyweight champion and though he faced some spurious 'contenders' like Two Tonne Tony Galento - a fighter that knocked him down - his finishing skills were probably the finest ever seen.
His victory over Max Schmelling was laiden with political and racial overtones, despite Max's personal dislike for the xenophobia and nationalism that was gripping his nation.
Much like Jesse Owens victory in the pre-war Olympics, the victory was presented as meaning so much more.
Joe was conspicious in his love of his country, joining the army during the war but his country, his sport and the people with in it conveniently forgot him when he fell on hard times.
On which ever criteria you apply - Joe Louis was a top three or four heavyweight of all time.
