Read the Pentagon's New Map by Thomas Barnett. The Cold War brought zillions of dollars of defense spending without a shot being fired in an actual war. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Pentagon generals and admirals who rose to power by championing huge weapons systems were arguing that Red China was the next big threat to the US ... the next near peer. In reality, I think, China has more to lose in confrontation with the US than anyone. The current war against terrorism is a low budget affair, by comparison. Huge aircraft carriers, space based weapons systems, nuclear subs, etc. don't do much to stop suicide bombers.
Right-wingers love peace and understand that peace is only possible with a strong force to keep the peace. If we degrade the ability of peace-loving people to wage war, we will have more war than you ever imagined ... ok, you can watch documentaries of Hitler sweeping through Europe with almost no opposition and get a glimpse of how this works. As Nietsche said, power abhors a vacuum. Your peace and safety are secured by those right-wingers who understand the reality. Didn't 9-11 show you that our enemy is just as happy to kill the left-wingers as the right?
