Surely cars still have ashtrays in them? Or is the world just one big ashtray? I'm not anit-smoking, but very anti-littering.

They don't want their cars to smell so they stink up the rest of the world and light it on fire. Now if that isn't the definition of a thoughtless jerk, I don't know what is.

It's a practice I hate. I live on a main road and pick up about 2-3 packs worth a week from my front yard. As to this creating employment, that's idiotic. If it did, I wouldn't still be hunting for a job.

I've also seen fires that start from tossed cigarettes. One burned several acres and damaged a house. If they'd caught that smoker he'd have gotten jail time for arson.

As a reformed smoker. I used to throw them out the window because I never used my ashtray. It makes the car really smell.
I always hated it when I got in the car of someone who used the ashtray and I got out of the car stinking. I means sometimes it would be so bad that I would have to change clothes and/or shower. So I hate it when my car smells like stale smoke. The rule was that the window had to be all the way down. And the Butts went out the window. But I did try to make it a rule not to smoke in the car when possible at all. Thank goodness that is over because I have quit smoking myself. There are no more butts flying out of my car window.

Because they're ignorant, inconsiderate, and irresponsible.

Even if their car doesn't have an ashtray, they could put the cigarette out and then dispose of the butt in a garbage when they reach their destination. What's worse are the smokers that walk from their car into a store and, before they get to the doors, they throw the half smoked cigarette on the ground and yet there's a butt-tray right there.. that's just pure laziness!

In response to:
"Even if their car doesn't have an ashtray, they could put the cigarette out and then dispose of the butt in a garbage when they reach their destination."

Where would u suggest they put it out? On the floor of their car? Maybe against the windshield?

What's the big deal? Yes, it's littering, a very common form, but I have yet to see a road completely obscured by stacks of cigarette butts. This does create jobs- street sweepers clean the butts- and no one is any worse for the wear.

Also, I would rather see a smoker throw a cig out the window than have to avert their eyes from the road to pull out the ashtray, stub it out, etc (UNSAFE!!!)

This is such a miniscule problem compared to everything else happening today. So what, someone throws a butt on the street, which will be cleaned up a day later? Let's ask why are government thinks its ok to bomb schools, to take over foreign nations, to test military weapons in the ocean which are responsible for the deaths of over 100o dolphins in one day?

There are bigger fish to fry than this one.

Well, actually though cars ahve ashtray, but it deosnt strike to them about the existence of the ashtray iinside their car. Probably there should be a symbol in the car saying and reming them of ashtray's in thier own car. Anit-littering, gud to hear tht.

You are a better person than I. Smokers constitue some of the most self-centered, inconsiderate individuals in the world. Sure, they have a right to smoke, but everyone has the right to breathe, and the air is already polluted enough. I am anti-smoking. People should be ticketed for disposing of cigarette butts anywhere but the trash.

Your question is just the neplusultra of life's questions: Why do people throw wrappers on the ground instead of in the trash? Why do people throw coke cans and other aluminums and plastics in the water? Why do oil companies work near water and dump their oils into streams and rivers? Believe me, cigarette butts flying out the window are just the sprinkles on the cake...the answer is because we, as humans, don't actually appreciate that the Lord put all this: trees, skies, waters, and animals here for our benefit. They don't realize these things are priveleges, not rights to have. Humans are disgusting creatures; destroying everything we were born in and with...now I'm in a bad mood...

If you leave your butts in the car it stinks up the car really badly. So smokers often elect to keep a window open while smoking, ash out of the window and finally throw the butt out.

Just remember that littering creates employment.

Because they tend to be thoughtless people. I live in a city that recently outlawed smoking in public places on the basis of the health effects that second-hand smoke causes. You should have heard the arguments against the law (ie- it's a free country, I should be able to smoke!). They didn't care that their actions are literally killing other people. This is why I think that they throw their butts out onto the street- they don't care about anyone except for themselves.

Cars aren't being made with ash trays anymore and some people are just to lazy to use the ashtray
