The symptoms that are listed in Medical Journa are hypersensitivity, renal impairment, skin irritation and is not recommended that it be taken during pregnancy. Headaches, irritability, drowsiness, tremors, nystagmus, ataxia, diplopia, blurred vision, GI disturbance, atrhralgia, back pain. Weight gain is only present in Prozac. Lithium is all together stronger than Lamictal. However, the maximum dosage is 200mg for an adult, an overdose will not cause death. I've been on Lamictal, the only symptoms I found present were headaches and drowsiness, other than that no other complications. It's much lighter compared to Lithium which is also used to treat Bipolar disorder.
Well, whatever you're doing, good luck!

I am taking a combination of Lamictal (300 Mg) and Seroquel (200 Mg) for bipolar 1 and impulsiveness during the normal periods between swings in the bipolar spectrum. No rash. No negative side effects at all for me. Nothing but good things to say.. been on it for a couple years. The best thing out there so far ... for me.
I have mellowed out a lot from the seroquel and have had a welcome improvement over the extreme ups and downs. With any increase in dosage.. be wary of the rash.. start very low for a dosage and work your way up to whatever makes you comfortable.. but be aware that it is common knowledge that the risk of developing this rash increases in proportion to dosage and jumping straight to a high dosage. make sure you go over this with your doctor. or read up on it yourself before you go .. it is called Stevens-Johnson syndrome and is worth all the fanfare because it is potentiall deadly if not caught right away.
Lamictal gets a big thumbs up from me :)
No worrysome health related issues.. taht you have mentioned.. other than an increased amount of protein in my blood samples.. that is probably diet related thing. Weight gain has been very little for me.. maybe 5 pounds in a couple years? Again.. might be diet?
Blood pressure and sugar are in the normal range. All is good.
Hopefully you are doing good as well
Good Luck :)
Hope this helps :)

I take 150 mg of Lamictal, and I've been on it for over a year now. This is the longest period of time that I have been on the same medication, and not switching. It helps a little, but I still feel like crap most of the time.
But I continue to take it. For me, the side effects are very mild. Lamictal actually decreased my appetite and made me lose some weight. Sometimes it makes me tired if I take it on an empty stomach.

I'm on lamictal (200mg) right now for bipolar. After being on 6 previous mood stablizers, this is by far the best med I've been on. I've been on it for about a year now and I've experienced next to no side effects apart from occassional headaches which is a small sacrifice to re-gain my sanity. It doesn't give me that grey, empty feeling that all the other mood stabilizers did. From what I've read about it, it is especially effective for someone who has particular issues with the depression side of bipolar.
