That's always been the wierd thing to me... you can eat quite nicely off, say, Tesco Value, Asda/Walmart Smartprice, Safeway Savers (or even Aldi, Lidl) - so long as you choose the right product. Some are horrible, other passable, and the remaining third amongst the best in their class (trying hard to keep that "guarantee of quality")

It's the same third party factories that silently make some of our biggest brands I shouldn't wonder... maybe trying to take the international megacorps who pay their wages but never give them any respect down a peg or two.

On the other hand... I hate to namecheck them, but... Cott's in Nottinghamshire make a whole load of both supermarket's own-brand and other cheap-brand (e.g. panda pops) drinks, which are universally awful.

I used to work for united biscuits, and, all the biscuits came off the same line the supermarket brands came of on a machine with their wrapper and "known brands" on another machine. There were approx 10 machines to a belt. These were known as stackers. So there is no difference at all.

The only buscuit that was made differently was M & S they were made with butter instead of marg.

Their chocolate buscuits were packed by girls wearing white cotton gloves so that there were no finger prints on the chocolate.

The next time you open a packet of chocolate biscuits just look and see if the end one is turned chocolate to chocolate that is how they get around finger prints. M & S buscuits all face the same way, therefore there would be fingerprints on the end one

The only food maufacturer that does not make other brand names is Kelloggs.

Hope this gives you and insight to food manufacturing

Best wishes

Indeed the are. they are made by a number of different companies, some company's have grown with the supermarkets, and only make own label, some is made by the large firms or subsidiaries of them, so that they can say the main brand does not make own label. The actual companies can be quite difficult to trace, but don't be fooled by brand names, its the contents that make the product not the advertising spend.
