Downloading illegally is a crime and is theft. Yes, it is a sin.
The people who created those movies, songs, and software own the rights. By making illegal copies you are stealing from them. You are literally picking their pockets.

By the way, Al Gore invented the internet, not God.
Intellectual property rights is a tricky subject to consider when speaking of God and His laws.
You can rationalize all day long and come up with a good feeling about it.....then talk with someone else and learn another angle and have to start reconsidering it all over again.
My suggestion is to come up with a pretty definite idea of what/how you feel about someone stealing a short-story or a song that YOU "own" and put a lot of time into. Treat other people's intellectual property like you would want someone else to treat yours.
Realize, also, that SOME people might not be as altruistic as you are....that the monies derived from the sale and viewing of their work feeds their children and pays for food.
Try to settle this question quickly so you can spend more of your time helping other people and being good to yourself and your family........and just "check in" every once in awhile to see if your heart/spirit has changed on some of the finer points of fairness.

No. Downloading movies is not the same as stealing. Whether or not you make a copy of the movie does not affect anyone else, you are not changing anything. Neither scenario is commiting a sin. It may take some time, but the people that control movies and such will come to realise that viewing other peoples works of art (such as the latest movies) is not stealing at all. It is appreciation.

None of this is a sin, don't go through life worrying about every little thing being a sin. Live your life to the fullest, just remember the 10 commandments, and there is nothing about downloading or watching or listening to bootleg or downloaded music or movies.
Enjoy life today, because you do not know if there will be a tommorow.
