I think a lot of these people are giving you wrong information. Yes you will lose weight if you only eat one meal a day. I know because I have done this before. It doesn't mean you have an eating disorder, and as long as your one meal is healthy you won't get sick. For example, a peice of chicken with a small side of pasta and broccoli was what I usually ate. It does make you metabolism kind of weird though. Like if you ever go back to eating two or three meals a day you will gain some weight. However if you add food gradually it shouldn't happen. Also its good if you get like a half hour or so of exercising in at least every other day. If you want something easy try walking fast for a half hour.

Yes. I've lost 16 pounds in 4 weeks eating only once per day plus walking for 30 minutes a day. Let me explain something: I've been on more diets in the last 10 years than I can count or even remember. And everytime I get pregnant I gain 60 pounds. Plus, I finally realized that my true "eating disorder" is using food to self-medicate stuff I just didn't want to deal with. Once I got through that I could begin to focus on what felt comfortable for me. It started out by accident. I had a new job three nights a week teaching at a local college and the first week I was so nervous trying to prepare everything I just didn't feel like eating. I would grab a little something before class like a fiber/protein shake (homemade) or a skinless chicken breast and I increased my water intake tremendously. I noticed several things: I didn't feel bloated. I didn't feel exhausted. I didn't have crashes all during the day. I wasn't obsessing over food trying to figure out when I could eat next which is how I feel when I'm eating the "5-7 small meals a day." . And the longer I went without eating (as in hours not days) the less hungry I felt. I made sure to keep my water intake between 8 and 10 8oz glasses per day. I have averaged about 4 pounds per week. I also read somewhere that people didn't start eating three meals a day until after the Industrial Revolution and many cultures (Muslims) eat only one meal per day now. Don't hear too much about those folks destroying their metabolism, do ya? And then there's Prince Charles. He only eats once per day too.
Keep the 5-7 thing if you want. I'll stick with this because it works for me not only in terms of weight loss and increased energy but also psychologically. I know I'll be eating dinner and nothing is restricted. Not eating during the day simplifies my life dramatically so I can focus on other things. Ironically, I generally don't feel like eating a dozen doughnuts or a pan of brownies. Small servings are now fine and I feel full afterwards. Usually I walk in the late afternoon and that's an appetite slasher too. And by the way, I'm 41 so I've earned the right to say, "this doesn't work for me." Diabetes, heart problems, these are potential realities for me if I don't cut calories, eat healthier and increase activity. ANYTHING I do, helps. This isn't an eating disorder. I've already had an eating disorder that put me in the situation I'm in now, 60 pounds overweight.. This way makes sense to me and works physically and mentally for my specific case.

No,
Just eat 5 or 6 small meals a day. An apple and an banana. The a breakfast bar. A cup of soup. A salad. 4 to 6 ounces of broiled chicken with green beans. A skinny cow. And sometime each day take a walk. Walk for at least 1/2 hour.

I dont know why everyone is telling you no because if you are overweight and you drop your calorie intake you WILL lose weight! Is it the most "healthy" way to lose weight.....proabaly not. But is all those ads for diet pills and lean cusines healthy?

I know after I had our son I gained ALOT of weight and I cut my cals down and only had one meal a day and I lost 45 lbs in alittle over 5 months and YES I have kept it off for 6 years now.

Also you could do waht is called the 2-4-6-8 plan where you do 200 cals, 400 cals, 600 cals, 800 cals and then you can fast for a day or just repeat it. Also you can do a negitive cal mini fast where you only eat foods with negititve cals(mostly fruits & veggies)

It is basic math and if you are taking in less cals then you are burning of course you are going to lose weight!

You will loose weight at first, but eventually you will encounter problems. If you only eat 1 meal/day, you will slow down your metabolism and this will make it so that if you eat a cracker for a snack, you will gain weight. Also, if you eat only 1 meal, you will be really hungry and this will make you more prone to binge eat and make bad food choices at that meal. I eat lots of little meals/snacks throughout the day and I don't ever gain weight and I'm never hungry. The key is making good food choices (ie- I avoid snacky foods like potato chips and cookies).

The best way to lose weight is to eat fiver small meals a day. Something you normally would see as a snack. Lower the fats and calories you eat, add more fruits and veggies... and drink a lot of water. Limiting your food intake will slow your metabolism down. Your body will think it is starving itself, and will automatically prepare for it. You also need exercise. Cardio is essential... add in weight training (you won't bulk up as a woman) and you will turn into a fat burning machine. Without the exercise though, weight loss will be harder. You have to burn more than you eat each day. Try fitday.com you can track calories taken in and calories burned. You can take this advice as truth - I lost 60 lbs doing this.

It is hard losing weight by eating one meal a day. Your body will soon go into starvation mode and start burning lean muscle to survive, instead of the fat. I lost 95 pounds in 8 months by eating three meals a day. It is a program called Shapeworks, here is the website of the person that helped me: www.loseweightnow.com/tfward

Yes, however you are likely to be losing muscle mass as well as fat, because when your body needs energy it will convert muscle to that energy. Your body may also go into energy conservation mode (lower metabolism), which is also counter-productive.

It is recommended, instead, that you eat six small meals a day, to give your body the consistent food it needs to turn into energy, but not quite enough - so it uses up the fat you have (stored energy). Eat protein (poultry and fish are best, unless you are a vegetarian and then soy is very good), low glycemic carbohydrates (look up a glycemic index) and good fat (olive oil for cooking, almonds or peanuts for snacking).

You may not lose it really fast (2 pounds a week is a healthy loss), but you will be losing it really healthy. Exercise

Ever since I started dieting in May, I've found combining 2 frozen WeightWatchers meals per day with 3 or 4 large mugs of Green Tea to be like a magic potion. I seem to shed lbs almost every day. Just don't OVERDO it, and make sure to get the right nutrients / vitamins between. LIke, have a salad or some fruit for lunch with the frozen meals for breakfast & dinner.
