7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

8:2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

Could it just be as simple as the author of the story didn't understand the science of meterology - the science of the weather - and therefor explained it - rain - as coming from heaven?

Heaven can have two meanings. The first is space or the Firmament as mentioned in Gen 1:8 which separates earth from the other definition of heaven. The second is the dwelling place of God and the angels and the rest of the invisible realm.

The term heaven(s) is used throughout the Bible to refer to each, remember that until the 20th century no one had been to space so they clearly saw both as unreachable.

Noah's ark was real, Noah was the father of all the people today, though this cannot be proven, it has been proven through genetics that everyone shares one ancestral mother. Of course, without faith one can simply reject any truth.

Regardless, anything is possible for God so why even ask such a question.

Mark 10:27
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."
Also Matthew 19:26, Luke 1:37, 18:27

Probably not and probably not.

Noah's Ark is likely a parable to explain a Truth. Whether it actually happened or not doesn't alter the Truth so you're free to believe either way. (Same thing with Adam and Eve, or the Genesis Creation, etc.)

As for windows, another figure of speech to illustrate a point. The windows allude to ones being able to see Heaven. Besides, since Heaven is all love and joy...who would wash those windows? Then again, maybe the souls in Purgatory do the housekeeping in Heaven (assuming, of course, they're able to get a "Guest Worker" permit.)

Noah's Ark is real and sits atop Mt Ararat in Turkey. There have been a couple of survey teams to the ark, but the Turkish government is reluctant to allow any modern teams to the site. Your reference to Genesis 8:2---the fountains of the deep are springs and the windows of heaven are rain clouds. Heaven does not exist in the physical realm. It is a spiritual place. It has windows---each person that believes in the Lord Jesus Christ is a window of heaven. This window can be opened by the Holy Spirit. Jesus said: Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven, and all things will be added unto you. He also said: The kingdom of heaven is within you. Jesus loves you and he wants the window of heaven opened within you. Love him and the Holy Spirit will open this window and reveal to you are of the marvelous things that God has to offer you. Thank you for this excellent question. God bless you.

In the epic of Gilgamesh, not only is there an incredibly similar story, meaning that bullet Genesis was copied from the earlier Babylonian story, or the Gilgamesh myth was copied from an earlier Hebrew story, or both were copied from a common source that predates them both. Interestingly, the word Noah occurs in both of them.

There are also flood myths in most cultures, including the Aztec, Hopi, Hindu, Indoneisan, and (not surprisingly) Polynesian. Some believe that points to an historical event, and yet in these same cultures, water is associated with the workings of the mind or "spirit."

I believe that Heaven... Heaven is a place... a place where nothing... nothing ever happens....

Noah's Ark was real (as are all the stories in the Bible). Heaven is a place that exists and it has windows, or something that is best described by calling it windows. It must exist, because we know that that is where Jesus is now. He will come back to Earth sometime, but that is where He is now.

Noah's Ark -- Real and in the physical world.

Heaven -- Real but not in the physical world and not to be invaded by humans.

No man has gone to heaven except the Son of man (John 3:13).

Does heaven have windows?

No, it doesn't even have DOS.

The biblical story of the flood was most likely adapted from the ancient Sumerian rendition of the flood that pre-dates the biblical version and comes complete with a Sumerian Noah, ark, animals, the destruction of all humans not in the ark, releasing birds to find dry land, and a mountain landing.

Ancient stone tablets were found with a great epic inscribe on them. These are called The Epic of Gilgamesh and tell the story of a great king. The oldest Sumerian tablets that have been found containing this epic are dated to about 3100 years ago.

Gilgamesh was the fifth king of Uruk (Early Dynastic II, first dynasty of Uruk), the son of Lugalbanda and dates to around 2650 BCE. The Epic not only relates the feats of Gilgamesh, but also tells of a great flood in Tablet XI.

The Sumerian Noah is Ziusudra (meaning "he saw life." In the Akkadian language it is Utnapishtim) who gained immortality from the gods after the flood. The story about the flood that he relates to Gilgamesh is old. Here is a small piece of it:

"On the fifth day I laid her framework.
One (whole) acre was her floor space, (660' X 660')
Ten dozen cubits the height of each of her walls,
Ten dozen cubits each edge of the square deck.
I laid out the shape of her sides and joined her together.
I provided her with six decks,
Dividing her (thus) into seven parts."

There has been some evidence that Noah's Arc is/was real. I wan't to say the mountaintop is Mt. Ranier, but I can't remember for sure. Haven't looked into that in a long time.

On Heaven, I believe it is a spiritual world that sometimes briefly exists in our physical world. It does not have windows. It uses Linux. :D

(If you could see a picture of my teeth, you would understand why I relate so much to Alfred E. Newman. I LOVED Mad's satire!)
