This is unreal isn't it, first some of the Bible is real and then some of it. But who gets to choose what is real and what is just a story.

How come anytime its something embarrasing to Christianity it becomes no a story thats out of context, but hatred isn't taken out of context?

"looking for a needle in a haystack"..."raining cats and dogs"...etc, figure of speech. The Lord wants us to exercise our intelligence and be able to figure things out for ourselves.
God doesn't hate anyone, that is not in the bible, you will never find that.

The bible is all a big old story book. Especially the old testament
It is as real as the stories about Valhalla and the gods of mount Olympus.
Some of the new testament may have bearing but the whole thing has been enhanced and who even knows if the translations are accurate.
The people who pick and choose are looking for comfort in their narrow little worlds.

The moving a mountain story? Literal.

God hating homosexuals? Not in the Bible at all, God does not hate people, He hates sin.

No one picks, no one chooses, it follows the natural order of communications ... if it says "once upon a time" or "there was once a man..." it is not literal, it is a parable.

Well. I've decided that while the message that Jesus gave is good...basically kind and tolerant. I'm an agnostic..As to who picks (choose) what's real and what's just a story..nobody does really. Mostly people it seems interpret the Bible in ways that reinforce their already held opinions. Don't worry about it..not worth fretting about.

Oh I think I've got it. From what I remember from the torture of Sunday School, jesus speaks in parables and the old testament is picked apart.
My Grandma believes all that stuff that jesus said, takes the metaphors and applies them to her own life. When it come to the old testament stuff, I think she just picks and chooses. My Grandmother does not have slaves, doesn't kill witches, eats shellfish, etc.

I don't know why people defend a book that makes no sense.
Something in the water? Jesus brand water?

Moving a mountain IS literal! The passage you are citing is (Jesus speaking):

"If you have the faith of the mustard seed, and you say to this mountain 'Be thou removed' it shall be removed."

This statement by Christ was to demonstrate that the greatest faith is evidenced by absolute and perfect obedience, like that of the mustard seed. Jesus is still waiting for a man with that kind of faith. Elijah came REAL close!

And nowhere in God's word does it say He 'hates homosexuals'. It does say we should hate SIN as God hates sin, and God says homosexual practices are sin, but it does not say that He hates the sinner. In fact, on the contrary, it says that He LOVES the sinner so much that He DIED for our sins even though we are STILL sinning!!

Mountains are symbolic of nations.

What exactly don't you understand about an abomination.

No one picks or chooses they study to show their self approved.

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

How come you self proclaim your wisdom and yet have no knowledge of God's Word. It's very apparent you are Bible illiterate and yet continue to put down scripture that you have no understanding of.

The Bible is like an Ancient "History Book", not really "HOLY", we read the Bible to remember our past and remember our way through life.
