i would make sure you contact a lawer...i have seen this before...be very careful....the person that I know took the baby...only to be hounded by the mother....she was told how to take care of him...from clothing to punishment. She wanted visiting rights but she would come and change his clothing....check his bedroom... just to be involved. When the mother needed a place to live for a while....that's where things got bad. She told lawyer, she was on drugs at the time...didn't know what she was doing...and father wanted time to think about it, so he was okay with it...all the way down to the adopting parent hitting the child. you must becareful...this is a friend . and more than none this is a quick fix for the parents. they know who has the baby, where it is...nothing could be better for them. I don't know if they are together or not...but if they are immuture they could try using the baby as leverage against one enother..... you know...don't let him see it....oh ....she 's crazy, don't let her touch my son.... just becareful.......I am glad to see someone stepping in for the nonresponsible acts of others.....

I would be careful with this. Make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into. I don't think that it is healthy to adopt the child of a friend.

I have to think that at some point in time in the childs life, the biological mother is going to want to see and spend time with their child.

Peoples lives change. This mother may not be in any position right now to take care of the child, but in the future she may be able to and that is where the problems will come in.

Just be careful, maybe think about adopting a child that you don't know the mother of. I just don't want you to have to go through the pain later in life that this may end up causing.

Contact an adoption attorney. This can turn out to be a really sticky situation, because your friends might feel the right to interfere with your decisions about how the child is raised.

Get a lawyer.

Make certain you get every freaking right in the book to the child - you will want to be completely separated from the person on paper.

Don't be nice (just because she's a friend or whatnot - or even how honest she is or seems - things change - people change their minds - especially mothers 10 yrs down the road.) and don't give in to any special privledges to the mother, etc.

You can go through a lawyer to do a private adoption that way it takes quicker as opposed to the state doing it. You could split the cost of the lawyer and the paperwork.
