First of all, let me say "yum" in homage to caffeine in all its wondrous forms.
Second, let me say "thanks" for all the years of productivity and sleepless nights that caffeine has brought to me.
And lastly, may I say "kudos" to caffeine on being BOTH a drug that I have been addicted to since I was able to hold the bottle on my own AND a vitamin that has nourished and enriched my mind and body and turned me into the finely tuned couch potato that I am to day....with a second shout out to the executives of Anheuser-Busch for my full-figured belly.

Apparently I have built up a tolerance to caffeine, either that or I am so laid back that caffeine just doesn't do much for me. When the weather is cold I often drink coffee right before bed and it doesn't seem to affect my sleeping at all. However Exedrin or other analgesics with caffeine to seem to pep me up quite a bit when I'm draggin'. Some days they are a necessity.

When you wake up at 5:50 am for no good reason on a holiday Saturday(well here it is one) you think maybe just maybe you'll go back to bed. I did that today. I put off the first cup of coffee for an hour. I finally did have one at around 7:00 am but that first hour was akin to being in a fog bank. I usually have a cup upon rising.
Too, I can't have a cup too late in the day or it keeps me up all night.
I vote for drug.

Caffeine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant, having the effect of warding off drowsiness and restoring alertness. Beverages containing caffeine — such as coffee, tea, soda & energy drinks — enjoy popularity great enough to make caffeine the world's most popular, & legal psychoactive drug.

Well, I doubt that it's a vitamin. It is a drug. It has many uses, depending on your purposes:
1. If you drink a lot, five cups of coffee a day keeps your liver free of alcohol-caused diseases.
2. If you work in a modern industrial society where keeping in time is very important, then coffee is a must. (Surprisingly, coffee wasn't known in Europe before the industrial/capitalist revolutions. Coffee drinking was probably invented by the capitalists so they could be guaranteed of good, on time, wide-awak workers.)
3. If you're a night person who has to work mornings, you must have your jolt.

Neither. By definition, caffeine certainly is not a vitamin, and it's really more of a "want" than a need, don't you think?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a total junkie. Drinking coffee right now!
