The heart is usually only just visible at 5 weeks and this is when most pregnancies are JUST visible. Some ladies come in earlier if they have bleeding or pain to confirm if there is a uterine pregnancy/miscarriage/ectopic pregnancy
5-10 wk scan
Formal scans are done at your first visit 5-10 weeks to confirm pregancy
12-13 week scan ELECTIVE NOT COMPULSARY
used in conjunction with statisitcal info from blood tests and your age and history they scan the Nuchal Fold (fat fold at back of babies neck) to determine risk for downs syndrome
18-20 week scan
Looks at growth, organ development and general anatomy, everyone has this scan to confirm all is well with the baby

6 to 8 weeks for the first ultrasound to confirm a heart beat.

I'm currently expecting and I had my first at 10 wks to verify due date and then another at 20 wks to determine sex. Good Luck!

6-8 weeks to see if everything looks normal and then usually again at 16 weeks.
I would question a doctor if he waits until 16 weeks to do it.

if people don't know when they got pregnant you have one to get a due date but if you do know about 4 mths that way the DR can tell you what you are having.
