I had one of the best dinners of my life at the Old Homestead. I love that place. My husband and I have been to the one in NYC and the one in Atlantic City. They are both excellent. I have to say that neither of us liked Peter Luger's (except for the bacon, their bacon is the best). Plus PL is in Brooklyn.

Like any high end NYC steakhouse the Old Homestead is expensive, but sometimes you have to splurge. Steaks are priced at $39-$78. Everything is ala carte so nothing comes with the steak. Sides are priced at $6-$10. Salads are $9-$14.

We had reservations but I think it depends on when you want to go. We lived in PA at the time and it was a long way to drive for no reservations.

It's one of the better steakhouses in NYC (still think peter luger's in brooklyn is the best). The service here is average depending on how busy they are--i;ve been a few times and they seem to get flustered when it gets busy. You should definitely make reservations, especially if it's on the weekend. The prices are high but on par with other well-known steakhouses in the city. And the food is very good and they serve huge portions.
