First of all, I am always counting in my mind. When I cook, I keep on checking if i turned off the stove. I will keep on going to the kitchen to make sure that I turned off the stove. I set my alarm about 5 times a day because I want to make sure that I had it to the right setting. My bed has to be made at all times too or else I wil get anxiety for it. I organize everything. I'll freak out if my room is messy. My closet is contained with tops on the left and dresses on the right and pants in the middle. When I park my car in my driveway it hjas to be certain distance from the sidewalk or i'll freak out. I also have to keep my doors locked and I will continue to check if they are locked even though i just checked them. Do you think i have OCD?

it just sounds like you have no confidence. just have faith in yourself that you do what's right and stop second guessing yourself. i wouldn't be asking myself if i have DISORDER, but how do i get rid of it. ocd is just in your head.

in a word... yes...

in a paragraph... to be OCD you have to be obsessive and Compulsive (which you sound both) if your compulsions take up more than an hour of your day (i.e. you have to schedule things an hour after you're supposed to arrive home because it take that long to get your car to the perfect position in the driveway) then many psychiatrists will diagnose you as such. The "anxiety" is classic of OCDers, the action (compulsion) must be performed to satisfy the obsession. Most OCD people know something is wrong with them, and will seek help. OR... you could just be anal and a clean freak.

OCD is hard to diagnose. Your behavior is slightly obsessive, but not necessarily OCD. I have displayed some of those behaviors myself. I went through some counseling. The diagnosis was not OCD, but ADD with OCD tendancies. Both were not chemical imbalance problems, but life imbalance problems. I learned that I am a "visually oriented" person. I like everything physical to be "just so" and I feel stressed when it isn't. I still like things that way, but I don't freak out as much when they aren't for a while, though I do get it cleaned very quickly. My problem stemmed from feeling "out of control" in many areas of my life, so I tried to regain control by "controlling" physical objects because it was the only thing I felt empowered over. Now that I am recovering from this problem, I have learned that I just function and think better in a house that is neat. I have established routines and schedules for myself that are not obsessive, but give me a sense of peace because I know WHEN things are supposed to happen. May I suggest that you try looking at www.flylady.net. It is a wonderful website with some great tips for people who feel "out of control". All of the info may not apply to you, but take it for what it is. My life is a testimony to the benefits of her advice.

Have you ever seen "Monk"
It sounds like you have similar traits

My brother washes his face up to 15 times a day
and has been diagnosed with 'OCD'
but he also is a very anxious person
He seems to be happiest and more in
control when he is exercising regularly
and listening to music.

Yes, ocd people are in lack of security... you have to practice day after day.. like one day instead of checking 10 times, do 9... gradually you will be okay

i think you do. you need to see your GP. you can try cognitive therapy which teaches you exercises to deal with the triggers that are allowing your ocd to manifest this is usually delt with by a psychiatrist. ocd has many forms, counting, hand washing and many other rituals. we all have our way of doing things, but ocd inter fears with your normal day to day way of life .ocd means obsessive compulsive disorder.
