Why are muslims so cruel if they claim islam means peace?

In Pakistan recently a 14-year-old Christian girl was kidnapped, forced to convert to Islam, then raped and given to a Muslim to be one of his wives. The pleas of her parents were ignored by the police. In 1997, Islamic extremists, aided by Pakistani police, destroyed the homes of 800 Christians as well as thirteen churches, because they had "insulted Islam." A few weeks ago six children and nine adults were gunned down as they worshiped in a Christian church. This terrorist nation is our newest "ally" in the war against terrorism.

i,m muslim and i say if it true, that muslims did not understand islam right. because in islam we learn that we not force any one to convert in islam. in the beginning of islam we had big force ,but we did not kill any one to be a muslim for example when muslim went to egypt thechristains egyptians themeselves helped the muslims because the the injustice of the romans and the mercy and the freedom which the muslims gave them and we return to egyptians their churchs which the romans had taken of them.

This is the case of where people don't see the bigger picture of why things are the way they are. Without seeing the picture, you cannot address issues at the roots. Christianity is the older religion so sure it has had longer to up the count on the victims list. It also went through the period of enlightenment, and post WWII the western societies went through fast paced development and with that came the kind of freedom from religion to think, and to criticize and deconstruct Christianity. Most Christians now cherry-pick the sensible and rational parts of the Bible to practice and base their values on. Islam in comparison hasn't gone through that phase yet...in terms of evolution it is still behind both in time period and also because the main countries practicing Islam hasn't created, innovated and lead in much capacity in terms of advancing humanity in all areas in the recent decades. Without this advancement, many societies are under the oppressive regimes...and if that is what you are raised with...that is all you know. Everything is relative...some of the southerner rednecks in the states can sound just as ignorant and violent in their worldviews as what you may have heard some Muslims say. Many people say that it is the people that are twisting the good words of Islam. Many have done so as well with Christianity in the past...the process is no different from each other. Like previously mentioned...once the society develops in morals and ethics outside of religious practice, education processes are in place to incite critical thinking and oppressive regimes lifted, many Muslims I have no doubt would critique parts of Islam openly like many Christians do as well for their own faith (let's be honest, some of parts of the bible makes no sense). Problem with religion is that when times are tough and when the masses are indoctrinated to think a certain way from birth, is that it can easily be used to twist people into behaving the way the leaders wants. The religion itself has hypocritical portions and parts that are violent and twisted individuals pick those parts to enforce...and implement for their own benefits/ideals.
In large, I think Europe has become quite secular in the recent decades so they are so divorced from this sort of religious identity and have been entrenched in furthering humanity, they couldn't understand the kind of mentality that are coming out of people in other parts of the world. Namely those that are moving en masse from Africa and the Middle East towards it.

The christians are no better than the muslims. In fact, they're worse because the muslims still have a long way go if they want to catch up in numbers of victims. This is not even a third of the list of christian crimes in the past millennium:
- the crusades
- the inquistion
- the wars against islam and jews in Spain
- the assault on the Ottoman empire
- imperialism in North America, South America and Australia
- the slavery of Africans
- Nazi Germany
- 500,000 dead kids in Iraq between 1991 and 2002 due to bombings and sanctions

All told, the christians have been responsible for about 150-200million deaths in the past thousand years, and that's a conservative estimate. All killed in the "name of god"!

By comparison, the muslims are just getting started. I'm sure they'll kill as many, only faster because of technology.

Where you get the fanciful notion that christians are any better, I have no idea.

And when you meet e those who disbelieve, smite their necks; and, when you have overcome them, bind fast the fetters — then afterwards either release them as a favour or by taking ransom — until the war lays down its burdens. That is the ordinance. And if Allah had so pleased, He could have punished them Himself, but He has willed that He may try some of you by others. And those who are killed in the way of Allah — He will never render their works vain.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَاتِلُواْ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَكُم مِّنَ الْكُفَّارِ وَلْيَجِدُواْ فِيكُمْ غِلْظَةً وَاعْلَمُواْ أَنَّ اللّهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِينَ ..توبه/123

O ye who believe! fight such of the disbelievers as are near to you and let them find savageryin you; and know that Allah is with the righteous

وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللّهِ وَقَالَتْ النَّصَارَى الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللّهِ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُم بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ يُضَاهِؤُونَ قَوْلَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَبْلُ قَاتَلَهُمُ اللّهُ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ" ..توبه/30

And the Jews say, Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say, the Messiah is the son of Allah; that is what they say with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before them. Allah’s curse be on them! How are they turned away!

"قَاتِلُواْ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَلاَ بِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَلاَ يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَلاَ يَدِينُونَ دِينَ الْحَقِّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ حَتَّى يُعْطُواْ الْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ" ..توبه/29

Fight those from among the People of the Book who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor hold as unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have declared to be unlawful, nor follow the true religion, until they pay the tax with their own hand and acknowledge their subjection.

"يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ إِنَّمَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ فَلاَ يَقْرَبُواْ الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ بَعْدَ عَامِهِمْ هَذَا وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ عَيْلَةً فَسَوْفَ يُغْنِيكُمُ اللّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ إِن شَاء إِنَّ اللّهَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيم "..توبه/28

O ye who believe! surely, the unbelievers are unclean. So they shall not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs. And if you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you out of His bounty, if He pleases. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.

فَإِذَا انسَلَخَ الأَشْهُرُ الْحُرُمُ فَاقْتُلُواْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَيْثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمْ وَخُذُوهُمْ وَاحْصُرُوهُمْ وَاقْعُدُواْ لَهُمْ كُلَّ مَرْصَدٍ فَإِن تَابُواْ وَأَقَامُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَوُاْ الزَّكَاةَ فَخَلُّواْ سَبِيلَهُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ..توبه/5

And when the forbidden months have passed, kill the unbelievers wherever you find them and take them prisoners, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and observe Prayer and pay the Zakat, then leave their way free. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

وَاللاَّتِي يَأْتِينَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَاسْتَشْهِدُواْ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعةً مِّنكُمْ فَإِن شَهِدُواْ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِي الْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىَ يَتَوَفَّاهُنَّ الْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ اللّهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا ..نساء/15

And those of your women who are guilty of lewdness — call to witness four of you against them; and if they bear witness, then confine them to the houses until death overtake them or Allah open for them a way.

وَاللَّذَانَ يَأْتِيَانِهَا مِنكُمْ فَآذُوهُمَا فَإِن تَابَا وَأَصْلَحَا فَأَعْرِضُواْ عَنْهُمَا إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا ..نساء/16..

And if two men from among you are guilty of it, punish them both. And if they repent and amend, then leave them alone; surely, Allah is Oft-Returning with compassion and is Merciful.
