I seriously doubt it. With depression there is usually more than one chemical either in a state of depletion or totally missing. These chemicals must be replaced daily and in a concentration that makes dietary sources impractical or impossible. Only a psychiatrist can determine if the depression is chemical or psychological or both. Drug therapy without group therapy usually doe not work for very long. In almost all cases of depression there is a root cause at the psychological level. A trip to the psychiatrist is quite painless and there is no need to feel embarrassed about it---keep it to yourself.

It seems a case of depression as generally for chemical imbalance Doctors (doctors ONLY) give tablets like SERLIFT which gives a boost of SERENTINE ( a chemical) which makes the mood better. One should not such take medicines on their own, as these are scheduled drugs i.e. they are to be taken following a schedule, which otherwsie may make the things worst.

But I have seen cases (if it is not a severe hereditary case) that depression can be reduced by exercise. One must follow an execrcise schedule and try to divert his mind.

Thirdly, depression can also be reduced by doing YOGA.

I think a healthy diet can certainly help in depression .. not necessarily to "cure" it but feeling fit, fresh and healthy is good. Depression makes me lethargic and tired at times so I try to drink lots of water. Plus have fruits and veggies and eat as healthily as I can cos I have enough trouble with my mental health to add to it by falling sick with the flu etc .. and being overweight makes me feel bad about myself so I might as well protect myself from getting more depressed by such things. Makes sense do you think?

I've also found that overeating chocolate sends my mood crashing down down down so although I love chocolate I now just stick to a little bit at a time cos I hate that overwhelming depressed feeling that follows.

Alcohol is really lousy for depression, if it can be considered part of one's diet!

Get enough (2grams) omega3 fatty acids every day, that's you're gonna take through fish oil capsules...Get enough folic acid, and vitamin C.
Stay away from alcohol and all other drugs.
Get sun shine//artificial sun shine during winter time(light therapy)
Get some exercise and let your body fill up with oxygen.
If you are just depressive-not manic depressive, then you can use coffee as stimulant and chocolate for ceretonin.=)
GET WELL SOON!!!

Apparently omega 3 fish oil is good for lifting depression. My counsellor kept telling me to take it but I was already on antidepressants so I didn't try it. It might be worth a try, you can buy the capsules relatively cheaply in most supermarkets or pharmacies.
