It is the responsibility of the parents to monitor and control their children's use of this site, or any other, in my opinion.

Some of the younger members of this site are valuable contributors, and should not be banned.

If you don't want your children here, keep them out.

If you see abuse here, report it, regardless of what age you think the poster might be.

If you want to keep children away from anything related to sex, drug-use, foul language, etc, you'd better keep them home from school, away from TV, and off the streets, too. Sad but true.

There should be separate Q & A sites for different age groups. Before anyone says "But the kids will just lie about their age." I know there are technological ways to verify this. Yahoo states that if for any reason, they have reason to believe that a person is below the age limit, Yahoo can terminate their account. This would be a good time to enforce that rule.

A lot of kids think that the teen and preteen section is to ask a bunch of question they should be asking their parents. And people eat it up giving them answers not knowing that the asker may be 8 yrs old. If children are going to ask questions for educational purposes, they shold ask a site with professional who will take the asker's age into account.

I would say it depends on the maturity of the child. As long as they are unable to be contacted and don't leave any personal details it should be ok.

There are some genuine people on here willing to give genuine and very helpful advice on certain topics such as homework or family life. Sometimes children need this as they have nobody else to talk to or get advice from.

As long as they don't abuse the situation and ask stupid questions or act their age, then I see no harm!

It is of course up to the parents to moniter what their child is doing on the internet. At the end of the day though, children will find a way to enter these places with or without permission. This is a safer environment that chat rooms as it is monitered well.

You mean the Yahoo! Answers site? I was trying to find some "Link" after your question, but failed. I think if you are from 'western' or 'developed' country then the age bar could be 13 at a maximum for the girls and boys. However, under parental guidance they can ask and answer questions from Grade-VI onwards. You have plenty of other sites which children views anyway! So, please do not restrict this knowledge-based site on any pretext.

It would be ok for under 18's if the controllers of the site took out the moronic replies with foul language in them. Could there be an electronic filter to pick out key words and then delete the whole text automatically?

Children under 18 are some of the best at making computer programs these days. They can hack into federal government sites and files. What makes you think you can keep them off of here.

I strongly agree, there are adults in this room who are very vulgar and children should not be exposed to some of these questions.

that would be something the childs parents would have to decided. I would not let my 8 year old daughter on here. People post some really nasty crap on here sometimes.
