Hi! I'm a personal trainer with a host of other fitness and nutrition related certifications. I've been working in the fitness industry for more than 10 years and have learned quite a few things. One is that all "calculators" are based on averages, just like the classis "height-weight" tables that don't give an accurate body fat analysis. According to those tables, most seriousweight lifters are morbidly obese. The best thing you could do for yourself is find a high scale gym that offers a "Breath test" for your metabolism. You breathe into a tube for 10 -15 minutes and the machine measures your oxygen consumption by comparing your exhaled breath to the surrounding air. Bottom line is your muscle mass and rate of metabolism determine how many calories you need. Not your height-weight. The machine tells you the exact calorie range you need daily to lose weight, and how many calories are TOO LOW. Yes, I said too low. I have seen several people who could not lose weight take the test and learn that they weren't eating enough. At a certain level, your body turns to "starvation mode" and starts to shut down your metabolism to conserve energy. Eating MORE calories is the simple cure, and I've seen it work many times.
