Give him his space and don't force him into it. What you can do is put him in a bathingsuit and water wings (if he'll let you put those on) and let him play close to the pool while you swim. He should start approaching the pool little by little. The main thing is that they enjoy it.

My son was that way too, he went from loving the pool as a baby to being scared to death of it after at age 2. He wouldn't even let me put on the water wings. So I just let him be and he started by getting in and staying on the first step and then the second, etc. Until one day he got up the courage to go into the pool with some floating toys and loved it. He was 4.

Get him lots of flotation devices and don't splash him or dunk him underwater. Be sure that you are always with him so he has a sense of security. To a toddler, the pool probably looks like the ocean and he's a little scared. Just be with him and reassure him that you are not going to let anything happen to him. Lots of water toys make it fun too.

Don't try to push him into liking it. The best thing you can do is show him other people (like family members, or people he knows) having a good time in the pool. He'll want to join them at some point.

When I was a toddler, I had a little inflatable innertube type thing that I'd ride in when I was in a pool. It was like an innertube but had 2 holes for my legs instead of one big hole like your typical innertube. You might want to look for something like that for him. From what I've been told, I loved mine.

Don't force him, he'll go in when he's ready. My youngest son had an inflatable toy, and one day, he walked down the steps and just went into the pool while wearing his inflatable. He absolutely loved it! Be patient!

Maybe if he saw other kids his age in water. But I wouldn't force him. Could leave emotional scars.

Don't make him. That's the problem. Challenge him in a fun way and when he is ready he will go in.

Convince him it's not the same thing as taking a bath?
