For instance, i think i would be right in saying that no right minded christian actually believes that a guy calle Noha actually fitted two of every species of animal into a boat and sailed away into the sunset! How can you say that this part of the bible is just a fictional story which 'has a moral behind it', but yet believe that some of the bible stories (equally as rediculous) are true fact? Does anyone actually believe that a guy once lived who could walk on water? or that there was a guy who killed a giant by throwing a stone in his eye? I have respect for Christians who admit that these stories are fictional tales or even have some element of truth but have just been exaggerated over time. However, I wonder how these people cannot question other stories on which their religion is based. And if anyone actually believes that any of the above stories are completely true then all i can say is that i feel soory for you for being completely infected by society's biggest virus-religion

Probably that's why we see more and more converts to atheism and alternative theologies are coming out.

Where most Christians make their first mistake is by believing they must "interpret" the Bible rather than simply understand it. Understanding it, means being able to accept the fact that it was written over many years by many people of different culture, beliefs, sciences, languages, political chaos, and rulership,,,,etc. When you speak of "interpreting" the Bible, what you are in fact saying is that God is an idiot and unable to produce a clear thought enough to make His point know to man. God doesn't need our scholars and theists and college educated nincompoops to tell the world what HE thinks. If the gospel is for the average simple man (most couldn't even read it for hundreds of years) then let the simple man understand it for what he sees it as. Stop gagging gnats, arguing over such nit-picking points and offending the young who haven't yet had opportunity to see it for what it is and make their own mind up. If your life dear christian is "in the hands of God" like you say, stop being so arrogant as to think someone YOU view as a lesser person than you spiritually needs you to take matters into your "own hands" and tell the world how smart you are and wrong everyone else is. LET GOD BE GOD and the bible be what it is, and DROP THE HYPE! please. Your right for asking this question, the more educated they are, the more it seems all they can do is fight and cause confusion and contradiction over the bible.

How can an atheist ask a theist anything if he/she can't respect their beliefs? People who say that don't believe all the bible are not true Christians especially those who compromise their faith and converse with you! I'm not offended! YOU can Believe that. You need Jesus and a new life. Feel sorry for ur self because ur gonna need pity!

i think they reject certain parts because they cant accept that their holy book is wrong, some will say the bible is perfect but then when you ask them why god loves slavery so much and there a dozens of references in the new and old testament they just say its taken out of context or some nonsense....BTW Noahs ark is scientifically impossible as even if every drop of water on the planet was in the ocean (all ice caps, etc.) the sea level would only rise 1800 feet (way short of the top of mount ararat), and if somehow god willed that much water to exist as to raise sea-level that much, every living air breathing creature would suffocate to death due to the high amount of moisture in the air it would generate (including noah and his animals).

I had this discussion with a preacher. He believed that indeed the bible was all symbolic.

I asked him: "That would mean that Jesus did not rise from the dead.... that to would be symbolic. What then is your faith based on?"

He blankly looked at his coffee and said; "Yes, that is a problem."

It's like Jane Curtain once said:

"He's God. He can do what he wants to do."
