I'd guess that most cats don't really like the taste of mice and just enjoy killing them! Only one I've ever had used to eat them and, even then, it would make her very sick and result in her having to go to the vets for some liquid paraffin to help the little ingested corpse on its way.

I suppose it's an evolutionary thing. Cats still have the urge to hunt mice but develop other tastes because they don't need to eat them to live.

Thanks for this question. I enjoyed answering it.

Added: Sorry, Norsedoggie. Spent so long musing on this that you beat me to it and I just repeated what you said!

Maybe it just tastes like chicken!

I would not fancy having mouse flavoured cat food in my house!!

The same reason why we can't buy human-flavored tiger food. Besides, if you were to give them mouse flavored food, they'd probably fool around with it first (maybe for a couple of hours) and after the whole house smells like mice, it's gon lick it clean (pretty unconventional, isn't it?).

how do you know cat food is NOT mouse flavoured ? have you tasted any cat food or eaten a mouse ?

Because cat food manufacturers have no idea how mouse tastes like so they can't apply the flavor to the cat food.(I don't think they want to know how mouse tastes like either! :-P)

That's a really good question......
I'd patent the idea it as soon as then sell it to a big cat food company. It would be a great gimmick for cat owners

Just a thought......how many mice would you need to fill a typical
cat food can? I'll be back in a minute ....................................the answer is 8

Mice do not actually taste very nice. Has anyone's cat every finished one off ? Flies, however, are a real delicacy. My cat never leaves a morcel.
